All Roxie wants to do with her life is go for long walks in the warm sun... but unfortunately, the sun is a bit too warm this week, which means that she and I are stuck inside. I have no clue what else to do with her, she's driving me mad with the constant begging "please take me for a walk" eyes. I've tried taking her outside to play in her pool, I've tried playing flirtpole in the basement with her, I have tried all her favorite games and she's just not interested.
I did manage to go for a very, very short walk yesterday and she was bouncing off the walls happy, but I seriously cannot breathe outside. The air is too thick and heavy. Honestly, I'm pretty sure I could set a rabbit in front of her, and she wouldn't be interested in chasing it. How on earth does one survive in heat indexes over 100, when all one's dog wants to do is go for a walk? |

I feel ya, I live in VA, and when you throw the humidity in on top of the high heat, it's miserable. Poor Karma hasn't been out for her walk in over a week now for the same reason. This week isn't looking to be any better here, and Thursday, matter of fact, is supposed to set records...... sheesh...

Well I certainly don;t have your heat problems, but RDF (rain drizzle and fog) is a serious epidemic in Newfoundland. If it's too wet for a bit I usually do this stuff
http://www.pitbull-chat.com/showthre...-day-and-bored Enough jumping usually tires her out. Good luck |

I take my dogs out in the early AM to run around.. we usually go to the park 4 times a week unless it's already super hot by 8am. We went this morning around 8, left at 9 before it got super hot, they do just fine.
I have a treadmill too though, I use that on rainy days or when I'm too lazy to take them to the park and they're bouncing off the walls. |

Yeah, I'm loving this heat wave we've got here in MI right now. (Please note that is sarcasm. I don't have a basement to retreat to, or AC)
Lately, the dogs have been getting a good late night bike ride. We can cover about 2 miles in 15 minutes now. Although, there have been a couple of days (and I'm sure Thursday is going to be one of these days since it's supposed to be over 100) where it's only gone down to 80 degrees, even at 4 am. Those days, yeah, we skip the bike ride and I just let them tear ass around the yard. |

I have tried everything to get this dog interested in anything aside from staring at her leash. I even broke out her favorite peanut butter and apple treats and tried teaching her a new trick... she's the type of dog who will fall head over heels trying to get one of those treats, but she could care less today.
I'm definately going to try and walk her tonight... last night the heat only dropped a degree or two, so we'll see how that goes. omgrobyn, you can always borrow my fan... i have a really nice, old box fan that's pretty good at imitating blizzard-like winds even on the lowest setting, lol. |

I keep the AC set on 68 during the summer..... my dogs just about die if I make them stay outside any longer than it takes to pee/poop, and Mollie is the worst of the bunch. She comes in and just flops on the AC vent after she's been outside.... for all of 2 minutes!
![]() I could do without heat in the winter before I could do without AC in the summer. It's been close to 100 degrees for the past 2 months, and we haven't even hit August. In the winter, I keep the heat set at 58. My kids used to complain, but I just told them to put on more socks and some sweat pants. Now they understand why I do it, if they go to anyones house to spend the night, they complain about not being able to breathe at night. My son has asthma, so I've always kept the house cold year round. I couldn't manage without AC, and I don't even have asthma, I'm just a wimp to the heat. ![]() ![]() |

I love the heat, but this is pushing it. We did get around going for a walk finally, but didn't last longer than 20 minutes... and Roxie is the type of dog who enjoys seeing the sights for 2+ hours... lol. But hey, at least she's wore out now. It's hard for her in the heat though, it doesn't take long before her tongue will start to curl and even though she doesn't want to, I make her go inside and cool off.
Kit- yeah, we rarely get weather this hot. We normally have two months of "summer", but for the most part it's barely pushing 80's, let alone temps like this. The humidity is normally higher than the actually temps. I don't live far from my work, but walking home today and I was just dripping sweat... as far as breathing, yeah, forget it. The AC better stay on tonight, because since I have black carpet in my room, it's like an oven in there... many summer nights I have a hard time sleeping because it's so hard to breathe. |
