Default There must have been real evil in this man
I was at a rest area and was walking star. We were about 100 feet away or so. Star looked at rge guy and started growling and his heckled raised. Thus is not normal for star unless there was a dog in the car I didn't see

My ma-in-law says Niki feels this way, I can be walking her and she will see a particular couple of teenage boys and she gets like this. Once they have passed us by she calms down but not until she sees they have well and truly gone on their way.

I reckon they DO sense SOMETHING in people....whether its 'evil intent' or whatever, I dont know...

I definitely think they can sense things that we cannot see. Glad you had him with you!

I trust Trigger's instincts, he never ever growls, but he growled at our neighbor one evening. We have never had any problems with him, but he is a bit strange.

Raj is just like that towards our neighbor (and only our neighbor) I have never seen him get like that towards anyone except my neighbor.

Slayer gets like that if strangers come in the back gate. My father in law lets some pretty scary people just walk into the yard without knocking so the dog flips cause the baby is in the house. (my brother in law has downs and is 3)

I've heard a couple old men back home say, "If my dog don't like you, neither do I." Which makes sense to me in the most part, as dogs, as well as other animals, can sense things like that.

Oh lord. Dogs are not supernatural beings. they are not creatures of pure goodness and light. theyre a dumb animal, like every other dumb animal on the planet, including us. the guy probably just smelled funny, for cryin out loud.

If I had a dime for every "creepy person at the rest area" story my husband has come home and told, he could retire. Dogs, being experts at human body language, pick up on creepy before we do.

I think with Slayer she just goes into protection mode if the kid is nearby. She watches everyone and if you are a stranger she growls or barks to let you know she is watching. She never goes for anyone just gets weary.

I don't recall ever experiencing it with Bentley but my brother's dog, Sheffield, does this. There's one neighbor that for whatever reason Sheff hates. He'll sit at the edge of the lot and just growl at them whenever they're outside. Or if he's in the house, he'll jump up and start growling at the wall in their direction if they come outside. He does not like them at all which works out cause they're pretty shady.

I believe they see things in people we don't. One day we were walking down a street in town and we saw maybe a dozen people walking around and then this guy comes walking down the other side of the street wearing a hoodie over his head, walking slow with his hands in his pockets looklng side to side. That was the only guy my Bubba barked at.

THIS. dogs read body language. pure and simple, they understand other creatures movements even the slightest little things and when someone does something they do not trust they let you (and the person) know they are not okay with what is going on.

Cupcake has always been very good at detecting creeps but as a Deaf person I read body language better than most and pick up on it the same time she does. The feeling is kind of like being startled, where you just tingle all over...kind of a rush feeling. Fight or flight response of course...I wouldn't rely too much on a dog to alert me to possible danger because some dogs are over reactive and mine has been over reactive to people that I know and work with who are totally harmless.
Here's a good book for all the ladies on here: The Gift of Fear-Gavin De Becker.

^^^ She's right. You don't need a dog to tell you anything about a person. I can tell within minutes of meeting someone what's up with them, what kind of person they are and whether or not I like them. I have never once been wrong.
