Oh I agree.
![]() This would also cover the cost of clean up in units that don't have piles of shit left in them when tenants move out, since the DNA route wil only cover clean up when piles are actually present. If they go the route they are looking at, they will lose money in collection, processing, and prosecution fees. Especially since it's a one time fee. |

Nothing worse than stepping in some other dog's poop while walking and cleaning up after yours. Absolutely hate that but think there must be some other way to address the problem without some profit minded franchisee just looking to fine someone.
We also have folks that do pick up after their dogs but, they then throw the bagged poop over the fence into the neighboring community. WTF?! That's almost worse than not picking up at all. Last month I tossed at least 30 bags of poop BACK over the fence onto their entrance road where it belongs and they can drive over it while coming and going home. That ought to be a wake up call. |

Here in the town of Jupiter Florida, we now must pay a $200 fee to have our dogs DNA checked and filed so the POOP POLICE can take samples, send it off to a lab somewhere to determine whose dog's poop it is, and possibly pay a $1,000 fine for repeat offenders.
I don't know about you, but this is the craziest, dumbest thing I've ever heard and, it may be coming to your neighborhood as well. It's a franchise business with some 30 franchises already that are in it for profit and proposing these programs to towns all across the country. It is ridiculous but it must be a real issue for the town or they are looking for revenue/income. As seems to be the case, alot of cities/towns are falling short on their budgets.
Did they have any meetings where this was going to be discussed prior to them accepting the franchise to help control the poop problem? I guess that is one way to enforce people to scoop the poop, and perhaps there is profit for the town as well as for this franchise. |

ugh i hate it when people dont scoop their poop! I passed a humungous pile yesterday with flies all over it!! It makes the rest of us dog owners look bad and it's sooooo gross.
On the other hand, I'd hate to have to pay $200 so they could analyze my dog's poop dna, and I'd be worried that there would be no way to fight it, like they'd charge you for not scooping your poop, when in fact you did!! |

Well this is a classic case of everybody paying for a few idiots. Frankly if it works so what. I sort of object to paying a fee if you have never been busted for not cleaning up after your dog. If you are busted, then you should be fined and forced to pay the DNA fee to prevent you from repeat offense. I only disagree with making people pay who have never done anything wrong. I also question the enforcement. Don't dogs like to mark where others have gone before them. In court chain of custody, and contamination issues can nullify DNA test results. I really don't see the expense of prosecuting based on a crap sample makes that much sense or cannot be disputed in court. It is possible to pick up crap without getting all the trace DNA evidence. So it seems to me easy to beat in court. Your honor, I did pick up my dogs poop, although I cannot guarantee that every last speck of DNA was removed from the scene as I did not have disinfectant and a garden hose. It is unreasonable to believe that DNA evidence can be removed with a plastic bag. If it could murders and rapists would never get caught. Nobody can remove all trace evidence.
On the up side, if $200 fee and permit for owning a dog in a metropolitan area helps keep dog shit off public places, prevents back yard breeding and people from owning dogs who aren't willing to pay and forces dog ownership to a higher level of responsibility than it could be a good thing. The other good point is that at least this is not Breed Specific legislation that targets us. It targets all dog owners equally. |

I honestly dont really have a problem with dog shit..
I swear in my complex I am the only one who picks up my dogs shit.. but it really doesnt get to me, I look where I walk, and dont let Bear get near the other dogs poop.. I know though, if >I< didnt pick up Bears shit someone would call in on me.. Not very many people in my neighborhood like "pitbulls" so I have to make sure Bear cant get blamed for anything.. even if it is just ONE time I dont pick up his shit. I have used cards and newspaper when he happens to go and I am not expecting it, I refuse to leave anything of his where people can see.. |
