Default New member, slightly confused as to the breed of my dog!!
Hi guys, I'm a new member living in ireland. I love all Bully breeds and have a lovely dog called Kenzie myself. I rescued him a couple of years ago from a dog shelter who had found him walking the streets and in a real bad way. I have him looking well now and he's really enjoying life. I am, however slightly confused as to his breed. My first thoughts were that he was a Staffordshire Bull terrier. Then a few people said they thought he was an american pit bull terrier and I'm still confused a bit myself. I just tell people he's a cross between the two. I was wondering what people on here thought and why they think he could be either breed.

depending on size, like you said it could be either one, or could be a mix of the two. impossible telling w/out a pedigree

Looks like a staffy bull to me. Maybe poorly bred.

I'd just call him a bully mix. He's cute as hell.

He looks like a Staffy bull. American Pits are a little more lanky.

ya i guess i will never know truely as he was a rescue dog. not that it matters too much anyway. i wouldnt say that he was "poorly bred" though. he's a fine dog

poorly bred doesnt mean his temp is going to be bad.. he could just not look anything like how hes supposed to, work how hes supposed to, and overall not bred well.

I can definitely see staffy indications in his look. I had one a few years back which was pretty similar looking. Some used to try to tell me he was a pit bull as well. There is every possibility he could have a few crosses in his history somewhere. If it were me I would call him a staffy or a rescue and leave it at that.

At that size, I'd say he's more than likely a Pit Bull -- could still have some Staffy Bull back in there though...he IS a cool-looking dog!. That's not a bad cross at all if that is what he is...

he is 19 inches at the shoulder weighs 55 lbsAt that size, I'd say he's more than likely a Pit Bull I disagree. The scene in Ireland has a lot of staffys which are bigger than the KC standard. You are likely to find someone along the way decided to try to breed "Irish staffords" and this has given the additional height and the weight would also be a result. My stafford was about 17in and about 50lbs unconditioned.

He has a really typical Staffy head, and thank god he's no KC Staffy by any means. Without papers you really can't tell, so I think if you really feel like calling him something other than 'a dog' pitmix should be it. He does really look like an oldschool working Staff though.

So the "Irish Staffordshire" is the same thing as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

Or are they just Staffordshire Bull Terriers bred for more height?
