Default officially introduced raja and willow today
Honestly...im proud of my little demon of a dog. Over the past ten days they've been seperated and the vet said it was okay for raj to sniff her out in the kennel or thru the gate just not too lose and not too long. (No butt sniffing!) Well finally her ten day seperation ended and my boyfriend and I let raj co.e close while I held her. (He's alreay learned from my ate that when im holdig the if he wants to sniff he need sit lay down first so this was easy) raja layer down and my boyfriend had him on the leash when I let willow down onto the floor. She went NUTS sniffing him at first while he looked at her clearly wanting to play and when she went into the play position he loosened up the leash so he could play too. (Willow only weighs 4 lbs and raj weighs a shopping 57 so imagine what this looked like) raj got up layer back down and then gave her the bogged lick I think I've ever seen! Then willow began to run in circles .around him hoping and jumping around like a nutjob and raja looked so.happy even as she was growling (playfully even though she sounds like she belongs in the exorcist) raj loves her its so adorable and when we fitted they were okay we let go of he leash and let raj run around with her (away from her actually as she chased him around playin) he gave her his favorite rope toy even though she couldn't grab it so he grabbed it and threw it so she could chase it. Don't worry all of this was under strict supervision and always will be. I also understand maybe one day ill have to seperate them. I just hope not =[ but anyway that's all about their first real encounter =) im really glad it wasn't a disaster.

However question...raj never used to growl as a puppy when he played with. Another dog but she does. Constantly. Raj always returns with playful reaction but do you think this could be a sign of future da in willow?

---------- Post added at 09:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 AM ----------

Also I ask cause raj is kind of a doofus and I could picture him interpreting aggression as "hey let's be friends!" But I don know cause I feel like his stupidity is just a facade so I do t expect him to do anythig smart (like work with y cat to escape his kennel...twice THAT was an experience lol)

Vocalizing during play is NORMAL for all dogs. Pit bulls can sound like warring tigers in play. Body language is more a factor for discerning aggressive vs. playful intent.

Eah that's what I've been going by. I just refuse to be one of those people that are like "oh no willow went and attacked another dog! So I ask all the questions I can so I can be prepared. She's so tiny raj actually has to lay compleley on the floor to play with her too its funny that she tries to sound tough

As long as you are aware that the potential for DA will exist no matter how "friendly" she is as a puppy, and that no matter how well socialized both dogs are...that dog on dog aggression can still become an issue down the road, and you remain vigilant and prepared, you'll be fine.

I think your doing great asking all the questions now! My only advice has already been given, keep an eye out at all times.
And very smart move seperating from cats also. Even though my two live with cats I know if I wasn't home someone would get chased and possibly hurt because both of my dogs have a very high prey drive.

Well... you will once you've seen real aggression.

And since different dogs display it differently...it's all subjective. Don't worry...just watch your dogs when they play...not just as supervision...but in study.

You'll learn your dog's own signals over time.

When our two play, there is all kinds of vocalization - barks, growls, and Trusty's unique bear grumble

As was stated: supervise and observe and study the body language. It will give you lots of info, and establish what is normal, and what may transgress into fight behavior.

I agree with what's already been said,..know your dogs and learn their signals. So you'll know how and when to respond when other dogs are around or if play time gets out of hand.

Mine sound like grizzly bears when they are playing... Just always be there, and never hesitate to intervene if play time starts to get too rough. Always be prepared, better to be prepared and ready, than to be unprepared and get blindsided.

Here's a good video of my girls playing. I know it's a bit long, but there are a lot of different behaviors that they express that to many people would be called fighting. It's very obvious, near the end, that the entire thing is a game when Lily gets into a big play bow; but the noises and their actions look like fighting.
It's just a good example of how, say if my friend or someone unfamiliar was watching my dogs, they would interpret the situation differently. However, because I know my dogs, and know what a REAL quarrel looks like (Lily makes noise when she means it, she stays relatively quiet when she plays), I allow them to engage in such play.

I disagree with that a little bit...but just a little. I will say that just in my opinion and experience, even if you've never seen real aggression, you can tell when something changes. I have been working with rescues since I was 16 and I remember the first time I saw dogs really fight and not just play or get a little too rowdy - I had never seen or heard it before but I knew it was a fight fight based on the sound immediately.

I do agree very much though that you should observe your dog all the time and learn all their signs and signals.

Thanks for all the awesome advice =) its not raja that im afraid of its more.willow. ill have to post a picture soon to show their.size difference or maybe a video of them playing if I knew how haha she sounds so evil but raj is quiet when he plays. Also it doesn't help that I don't know where willow came from so its hard to tell what traits she might have. Also though I wouldn't blame willow.for being annoyed. He is huge as is yet compared to her he's like godzilla with dopey legs

Oh yeah...that's totally what I meant. At this point in time the poster CANNOT tell real aggression, because she has not seen it, but she will be able to tell it once she has seen it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Rajas the first dog I've ever had that's actually mine so you'd fit about that. Also raj has been tying me alot more since willows come into the house. He's no longer allowed on the couch and his toys are hidden. He's only getti g what I give him and I can already see a slight improveme t in his attitude so hopefully in time.
