I'm acquainted with an older couple (older than me, they're about 50-60) who lives out in the country. And they have 3 wolves. Not hybrids, pure wolves. When the lady, (I'll call her Sally) told me that, I was shocked. Yes, dogs came from wolves, bladdy bladdy blah. I asked the following questions.
Q: Are they pets? A: Oh yeah, they're our pets. Q: Do you let them inside? A: Hell no, they'll tear it up. Q: You do know that once they decide they're not pets anymore, you'll never see them again? A: They can't run away. The adult male is in a fenced-in area, on a cable, tied to a tree. The adult female is in another fenced-in area, on a cable staked into the ground. Their baby that we didn't sell is in a run between them, he's too little to jump the fence yet. Q: ... What? You breed them? Do you have any idea where they came from? A: I know exactly where they came from. The woods behind our property. (At this point I mentally facepalmed.) Hell yes we breed them, people pay a shitload for wolf pups. People have bought them from all over the country. Q: Okay, uh. Why don't you get them fixed? A: We would. But here's the kicker. How do we get them in the truck without them mauling us? Q: You're joking, right? You just said they were pets. Pets don't MAUL THEIR OWNERS. A: No. They bite all the time. At this point, I facepalmed in real life. I just plain could not talk to this woman anymore. I almost told her off for owning 3 wild freaking animals. But I held my tongue. Gahh. Opinions on this? Is there any way I could make a quick little call to someone and these wolves be taken away? Maybe taken to an animal sanctuary, or hell, even euthanised? |
