Default my poor Diesel..

Diesel has been taking some abuse lately, and I must say I feel for him! Paige is growing fast, and now officially walking around. This only means I have to chase her and stop her from beating on the dogs. I caught her the other day balling up her little fist and punching the poor pup in the face! Obviously the 17 month old didn't hurt him, but he pulled his head back and got this sad "I didn't do nuffin" look on his face. I petted him and told him he was a very good boy and got on Paige for being mean. I'm trying to teach her that you pet the puppies not hit them. And her style of petting is the typical hard push of the fur, coinsiding with a loud "AWWWWWW" then she throws herself on top of him and lays there pretending to be asleep. The whole time my pooch just looks up and licks her face. I love how gentle he is with her, but wish I could teach her to be gentle with him!

awwww, what a good boy Diesel! Don't worry, she'll learn. You just have to stay persistent and consistent.

Yep.

And just make sure he always has an "out"...an easily available escape route and a place he can go any time to get away from her. That way if he gets irritated or tired of it he can just leave.

That's where a lot of parents go wrong...they allow the child to basically terrorize the dog and it has no way to avoid it, eventually they may get fed up...that's when accidents happen.

By the way...I want to smoosh your dog's face.

I really don't say things like that very often

i am going thru this with my 14 month old niece. she is pretty rough with "neanut" or "bub-ba" but he returns her pokes and punches in the nose with licks to the face. i am proud of Peanut for being so good with the baby.

now she does share her graham crackers with him so i think that helps

yep! Kiley likes to throw the ball for Peanut he actually plays different with her then he does with me its like he knows to plays soft with her he waits for her to throw it then he chases. it makes me hopeful that one day we can have kids and he will be gentle with them too.

I do all that stuff to star. Lol. Maybe not that bad. It's just my way of showing him kids aren't going to be any worse than me lol.
