I def. say mix, the neck-rolls (I LOVE neck rolls BTW, Sierra has tons of them!) and the coat say there is for sure some other breed(s) in him.

Good looking dog though! Do you by chance have other photos of him, possibly in action or younger to help out with identification?

Sadly, no. I just adopted him two months ago and he's such a Momma's boy that if I try to take a photo instead of paying attention to him, he immediately stops and comes to stand at my feet.

'I'm right here, Mom. Right here! Come on, Mom! Right here! See? SEE!'

My friend's little sister had the cutest response, though.

'He's part LION!' She declared, convinced. After she said that, I couldn't stop laughing, because I'd seen the similarities before, myself. Instead of walking with his head up high, he does the lion slink - Well, look at the pictures! And the way his tail moves when he walks and his shoulders roll? Not to mention his color and lazy poses.

I think if I never figure out what mix his is, I'll just stick with that one!

I immediately thought, shar-pei X when I saw the pictures. Something about those cute short legs made me think that. I am probably way off, but JMHO.

Default Guessing Game: Staffordshire mix
A few may have seen me on the intro section, but now I have a question I'd like some people to take a whack at. Beloved, my staffordshire mix, came from the pound nearly two months ago. Being the poor college student I am, I do not have the extra funds for random genetics tests, so instead, we're playing 'Ask the Audience'.

I'll put up pictures and hope people are smarter than I am and take a couple guesses. Maybe when the crapload of money comes in from the State (I live in Alaska. PFD is a wonderful thing.) I'll get the test and tell everyone the results!

Anyway, fun times ahead, no?

I agree with george. Although it doesnt have to be a "Yellow" Lab mix just plain and simple Labrador X Am.Staff. Because sometimes people think of the 3 main lab colors as different breeds...Honestly You can have a chocolate or black lab mix with an amstaff and you can get a puppy just like this. so.

George hit the nail on the head for my guess. Don't waste money on the DNA Test...you already have a great looking dog there.

Also advice, if your introducing the dog to someone if you put Lab x Amstaff but put the lab first it comes off less "Threatening". Ive just noticed this over the years when ive had mixes with bully breeds when you say the "lesser" known breed for aggression first people dont generally take a step back as if you were to say Am staff x Lab. or "Pit Bull X Lab". JMO

Personally, I HATE the term "staffordshire mix" because there is no such breed as "staffordshire". There are American Staffordshire terriers and Staffordshire bull terriers... but nothing called just a staffordshire. I hate how people use it to try and make the dogs seem like something they aren't, especially shelters. I think if someone is adopting a pit bull mix, they need to know what they are getting.

Your boy looks like the general "pit bull x lab" mix.. but he sure is handsome!

Staffordshire mix is what the pound put on all his paperwork, but they didn't try and duck the 'pitbull' stigma, either. They're very clear it's a pitbull breed, thought it's their approach to try and educate people on the breed, not warn them off.

But their goal is also to get dogs adopted, and calling it a "staffordshire" is going to make people less afraid of the dog. What I don't like is if people start thinking their "staffordshire" isn't like a pit bull and that they don't have to worry about things like DA and AA.

I just don't understand where calling them "staffordshire mix" came from, I guess... considering "staffordshire" isn't a nickname for either breed that contains that word.

When I adopted Brodie, they advertised him as a "Pit bull, Labrador Mix." When I got to the shelter they confided that they believed he was full APBT, but wanted to keep the 'bad people' away.

There is NO SUCH BREED as a pit bull mix!!! As far as an actual breed, there is only the American Pit Bull Terrier, but no breed called just pit bull.
