Default Hybrid Dog Breeds??
What do you all think of hybrid dog breeds? I like the Bulloxer, Bullypit, Old Anglican Bulldogge, and the Bullboxer Pit.

I thought a hybrid was just a mix of two species? Those dogs are just mutts.

I wouldn't pay money for one from a "breeder".

Hybrids refer to wolf/dog crosses.

I think what you are meaning to say is 'mixed breeds' or 'crossed breeds'.

I would only get one from a shelter/rescue or MAYBE someone breeding for a working purpose if I needed a dog for that same purpose.

This.

Though I wouldn't mind a working cross if I needed it.

Wack job breeders call mixed dogs they breed Hybrids as a selling point. It's a lie, just dogs bred to dogs. And that equals a mutt.
"Hybrid" is tossed around as a term, like the term "tea cup". There is NO such thing as a tea cup anything. and no real hybrid dogs. Use that as a red flag to run from a "breeder".

Those are mutts, mixes. Not hybrids.

I'm not cool with giving mutts a cutesy name and trying to sell them for a ton of money and trying to pass them off as a "breed". Its all BYB sale tactics.

However, I'm not opposed to adopting one of those mutts from my local shelter. But the dog will not have a cutesy byb name it will be what it is. "BUll dog/boxer mix" or whatnot

Yeah, in my books providing friends with pups for the same purpose is alright, too. So long as the circles are closed tightly enough no idiot is going to get a hold any of them and start peddling them out the a--.

Though it is a given I also think one should do all the proper testing and be extremely selective in choosing dogs to best compliment each other when doing so, which I'd imagine is more difficult than within a single breed.

Still wouldn't call it a hybrid!

I agree with Pip. If it is done for a good reason, to make an excellent hunting dog, or a great working dog, then that's fine.

If it's just to mix two dogs to have a "cute" or "catchy" name, I think it's ridiculous.

Designer dogs are just mutts, nothing more, nothing less. Shelters are chuck full of them, I see no reason to buy a deliberately bred mutt from a BYB when I could just as easily go down to my local shelter and acquire one for a fraction of the price.

I personally highly frown apon any dog being bred without a working purpose or intended specific breed preservation. There is absolutely no reasoning behind designer breedings other than "just because". Im sorry, that just doesn't cut for me, all these people are doing is adding to the over population problem and making harder for other dogs to find good homes when good homes are in very short supply.

I don't have a problem with designer mixes themselves-just the people who breed them for money and sell them as a new ''breed'' with a fancy name. Then again I have an issue with those who breed any dog solely for financial gain. I know ALL purebred dogs were originally created by breed mixing with a new name put to the mix,but the reason for creating them was not solely monetary-it was a need, function or purpose.

---------- Post added at 11:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 AM ----------

Anyways,I have no issues with mixed bred dogs,I somewhat prefer them.I don't think the papers really make the dog-the dog does,

I have NO issues with mixed breeds being 'created' for a purpose or desired trait.......

Hunting cross breeds like......

Lurchers
Hound crosses(mixing coon dog breeds as example or crossing saluki with greyhound)
spaneil crosses (mixing two spaneil type breeds)
Lab x golden(mixing retrievers)
breeding 2 proven ''catch'' dogs together
breeding 2 dogs who track well to produce a 'tracking dog'

Excellent Herding crosses examples

Border collie x aussie shep

Gaurding crosses

Mastiff x dane
doberman x gsd

I don't understand how people are suddenly glorifying mutts yet still refusing to get one from a shelter...both are likely to be poorly bred and, considering the interested buyer, poorly trained. I don't see the difference.

Wilson is technically a "Bully Pit" (he's an Am. Bulldog/APBT mix).. although I have never, and will never call him that.. I think it sounds completely stupid. I didn't pay much for him though; had he of been $1,000 or something because he was a "designer breed", I would've never bought him.

Because if they have two names stuck together instead of one name with "mix" or "cross" attached to the end, then they are not mutts, they're DESIGNER HYBRIDS!!! DUUUUHR!

Yeah I am sick of the "cutesy" names too. Someone on another forum asked if anyone had a "Mauxie" the other day.

It's apparently a Dachshund/Maltese mix. Why not just call them what they are instead of the stupid designer name?!

I googled them they look like gremlins.
