Default Never will i enter a dog park again!!!
i took Torro to the dog park on Friday afternoon and pretty much as soon as we walk through the gate there were two labs biting Torro's face and he was breeding on his cheek and ears, mean while i picked him up and kicked the shit out of the labs, they got the hint and then started on an english staff that came though behind us, we left pretty much immediately, then Saturday i took him to petsmart for food and all he did was try to snap at the other dogs, dogs he had no problems with prior, maybe it is his apbt blood showing though but he never showed this aggression before, i guess because he has never had to be on the defensive before because he is only around my brothers kelpy cross rotty and is supervised while around her .i was just hoping to keep him a puppy for a bit longer. anyway i wake up Sunday morning go open my back door, and Torro is normally there waiting for me to come and play with his tail wagging but he wasn't there, i went looking for him around the back, he couldn't get out of bed there was a mucasy discharge leaking out of his noes and vomit next to his bed, we rushed him to the emergency vet, it ended up costing me 250 just for the conciliation and another 180 for the injections and 2 weeks worth of tablets.
He has never been sick, he has had all his shots about 3 months ago and he has never been attacked.
the vet says it is a viral infection mostly likely caught it at the park.
i will never step foot inside another dog park and neither will Torro!!!!

Yeah dog parks are disgusting places. And while terrible for any breed, are really bad for bully breeds. At least now you know to never take him there again. I hope Torro gets better soon.

Taking a bully breed to a dog park in the first place is a mistake, but I'm glad you learned why.

Poor baby. Maybe his aggression could be a bit due to his illness? It sucks that bullies are prone to DA. :-/ Give him kisses for me!

Ditto.. why do you think many of us try and try sometimes on the "Pit Bulls & Dog Parks" topic to convince new members NOT to take their dogs to a dog park?

Sorry he got sick. Dog parks are disgusting places.. I'd never take any dog breed there, much less any type of Bully breed.

Wow poor Toro. I am sorry that he is sick and hope he gets better soon. Sucks you had to learn the hard way but I'm still glad you learned. Hopefully your story will help convince the rest.

Okay... I am glad you learned your lesson.. But I want to cry reading your post. You admit you live in an area with BSL... you know APBT/bullies can mature to be DA... yet you took your dog to the dog park. Your pit bull. What if he had gone to town on those labs? NOBODY would take your side. In an area with BSL, your pit bull mauling a sweet old family lab would have made the news.

Ditto,... this could have gone horribly wrong in soo many ways . Not 1 but 2 labs and poss any other dog in the park that would have jumped in. Just more fuel for the haters. Then they question why so many members get upset and have nothing nice to say when they see threads like this.

I'm so glad things didn't turn out worse, and like stated by others, if your dog had gotten the best of the Lab, you would likely be posting on your dog being seized by AC and probably be facing being euthanized right now. So glad Torro is going to be ok, and so glad that you now realize why dog parks are a bad idea... not only for the dog fight chances, but also, the terrible diseases they can pick up there, some of which, can prove to be fatal, like Parvo. Glad Torro is going to be ok.

It would also have meant the immediate seizure and euthanasia of the dog. Why the heck would anyone take a chance like that???

I'm glad you're a convert now!

I work at a vet clinic and there are some days (mostly Saturday mid-morn to afternoon) where we get multiple emergencies in from injuries sustained at the freakin dog park.

My dog isn't ever going to set paw in one.

im from australia

i never took him off his lead, and the lead was hooked to his harness so i could get his whole body off the ground straight away, they were the last dogs in the park,
i wanted to test how he went with other dogs. we have all heard it said "every dog has a different personality, its what we say when we fight against those ignorant people saying all pitbulls are bred to be man and dog eaters, but we know this isn't true, and dog aggressive traits run thicker in some lines more than others. now i know that he is defiantly game bred. he was never going to get off the lead
and a bet half of you with your snoody comments have in fact entered a dog park with your dogs you just would not admit it.
