Default I get to attend my first ever agility competition, I'm so excited!
I've never been to one. And I'm very interested in getting a dog into agility at some point in the future. My husband works with this guy who trains and competes border collies. He invited us down to the competition next weekend to see what its all about. He has even offered to train Sasha for agility if we wanted to get into it. Ofcourse I'm not 100 percent sure if she is the right dog for the event. I worry about her tail/lower back, though the vet says she is totally healed now. Plus she is already almost 3 years old, kind of late to get started. My dream before she got hurt and was younger and before money got tight was to get her trained in agility and compete. I thought it would be fun.

But I definately want to check it out, maybe it will be something I do with my next dog.

How exciting! Even though she is 3 she can still be trained. I have seen people get shelter dogs younger and older than Sasha and train them to compete. Age ain't nothing but a number if she wants to compete.

We are thinking about it. We'll see if this guys dogs are any good and then decide. And we are getting an opportunity to have her trained for almost free, it would be stupid to pass that up. It would be a good outlet for her if anything.

I've never attended one so I'm super excited to see what its all about and find out what it all entails. Can't wait. Its still 7 days away though, that is the worst part. its like waiting for Christmas

It's never too late to get started on agility! You will love it and so will she. I didn't start one of my collies in agility until she was 5 years old, and by the time we retired, she was the number 2 collie in the country in agility.

Trust me you will get addicted. The dogs have a great time. Go for it!

Very cool!! It's a blast. I didn't get a chance to attend a trial before my first competion, but I had a lot of people from my training class there to help me.

Rosie turned 5 this year, we've been training for a 1 1/2 years and entered our first trial this year.
I have some pics posted on the 'obediance and sports' page.

Have fun!

I attended quite a few trials (obedience and agility) prior to ever entering, so I can only recommend doing it. It's fun to watch and sooooooo gets you motivated. A little scared, too, but mostly motivated

I think it's a great idea to attend first. When I was showing horses I always recommended newbies to attend shows w/o their horses first.
I really wanted to, but it just never worked out for me.

I think having shown horses for so long helped at my first trial. While I didn't know exactly how a trial ran, I knew how shows progressed, so figured trial were basically the same, and I didn't have the first time competition nerves. It was kinda funny at the first trial, several people I train with kept asking if I was nervous...ummm, nope.

I agree, its never too late to get started. You should give it a go. It's loads of fun for the humans and the dogs have a BLAST too!!!

I bought a kit on eBay to get started at home and it boosted my shy dogs confidence greatly. She used to be scared to death of the chute and tunnel but now she loves them. The only thing she hasn't been introduced to is the teeter.
