Default Thoughts on Pit/Lab Mix?
Hi everyone! I just adopted a rescue dog, Herbie, a couple days ago. He's a total doll, and I'm already in love with him. He's a total sweetheart - - very mellow, loves everyone, protective, but not aggressive, no food, human, or dog aggression.

The SPCA told the foster family (friends of mine) that he's a Boxer/Lab mix, but after talking to several people and looking at pictures online, he looks more like a Pit/Lab mix to me. Do you agree? Apparently, rescue companies will claim dogs are Boxer mixes, when they are more likely Pit mixes because of the prejudices against Pits, which is so sad.

I'm new to both breeds, so any thoughts or insight you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

He is very handsome! I am not sure what he is; he could be a mix of anything.

He may well be a boxer/lab cross but I could be wrong. Just enjoy him and thanks so much for adopting.

A lot of rescues/shelters do mislabel pits as "boxer mix" or "lab/boxer mix" , but honestly, I don't see any bully breeds at all in your boy. Very labby to me, I even see a bit of hound. He's adorable whatever he is. Thanks for adopting

My dog Anya is a boxer/lab mix. We saw the mom and she was a pure bred boxer and the dad was a stray (obviously a lab). The only time we see the "boxer" part of her is when she is looking at us upside down and for some reason then she looks very boxer. Your dog does kind of resemble her. Without seeing the parents, you don't know, so just aim for being a responsible owner and you're good to go! Herbie is handsome!

ZoeyBear, your dogs coat is quite luxurious. It's ridiculously shiny. Very pretty.

Anyways, I can't really tell what kind of mix he is, but he sure is cute!

I had a Pit and Lab mix that I got from a couple that were dropping their oops pups off at the shelter and the shelter was full so we took a pup. Anywho, they said his momma was a chocolate Lab and his daddy a Pit. He grew up to look just like a chocolate Lab. So much so that Lab owners were asking my all the time if I showed him, lol.

The point to the story is that dogs can take after any of the breeds in them or look like a mix of those breeds and unless you got the dog from a reputable breeder you will never know what it is other than canine
