Default Rant
So today I was having a debate with people on a different form. I posted a bunch of pics of my dogs and a couple of people had a problem with moose's fake plastic chain collar I have on him. I think he looked cute, and its my dog. But someone said that they were mad because it promotes them as big tough trained to fight dogs, and they want them to be seen as gentle. This is what got me thinking, is it such a good idea to make mastiff breed seem like golden retrievers to the general public?! I mean they were breed to be tough and big, mastiff are guardian breeds, great with families but they need alot of socialization. Now i am not saying we should all go out and buy chain and spiked collars but thats a personal choice for the owner of the dog on what the dog wears. I guess i just see cane corso's and bordeaux's with uneducated owners, that think they are something they are not , and that scared me.. sorry for the rant.

Ignore them.

I've gotten shit for Sinead's 2" buckle collar being "mean" because it's "too big" and for her prong collar making her look mean. Oddly enough, nobody ever says the prong collar makes my Border Collie look mean.

Dumb. Your dog you can let him wear whatever you want to put on him. No ones business. No they should not be seen as golden retrievers, but I get their point on them not wanting to be seen as aggressive. However a collar is not going to change that getting a well trained one out in the public eye will. Good luck!

Yeah I deff do not want the mastiff breed to be the next big thing people get to have scary thug dogs. And I can see where they want to change the image they can have so that doesnt happen. So I can see their argument, but, like you said, its a collar. And I have been working with moose since day one to have him socialized around people. I carried him in my arms around petco and the park untill he had all his shots just so that he was used to new people and things, I work with his constantly, but at the end of the day he will still get suspicious of strangers at 9 months and I always have to be aware of that. sorry im ranting again, Its just that you were so right! Here is a pic that caused the problems, I think he is a cutie, but i guess im biased!

this is my fav though

The big chrome logging chains around their neck with a 2 lb padlock on it I think are ridiculous. That looks kind of cool. Especially when you know it's plastic.

i think its cute just because u said its plastic , if it was a real chain the only thing that i would find upseting is the weight of it on a pup. I've seen really young pups come into my work with metal chains that size and have had to keep my mouth shut because i know what stressits putting on their necks.

exactly, I would never want to hurt or put unnecessary strain on my pup. Its said to hold up to 200 lbs of pressure but its plastic, I think it makes him look like a cute lil tough guy.
But, i mean, people do put heavy collars on pups, so I can see their concern. I saw a bully puppy who had a real chain collar on about the same age as moose at the time. I went over to the guy and started talking. Our dogs got along so well, and he likeed moose's collar, and I told him how it was plastic so it gave him the look just not the heavy collar. He was really impressed, so maybe I was able to educate!

I love unique collars, so if anyone has any good sights i would deff check them out!

I think those are really creative collars. Especially knowing that it isn't real chain, what's the harm in it? People are going to think they're mean aggressive dogs no matter if they have a spiked collar or a pretty bright collar. I think you should put on them what 1.Works best for them 2. You like.

BTW those are some of the cutest expressions I have ever seen on a dogs face!! And where did you get those collars?

Nice looking pup! Good luck with him.

If anyone gives you crap about the plastic chain just tell them your pet lion has one just like it.

That way they won't have to sweat over the Pit pup.

lol thanks, Believe or not by dad made those collars, he wanted to surprise me with a cute collar for my new pup. Moose was born to make odd expressions this is the pic the breeder sent me when he was a baby. She was like he is on the right, he cant ever take pics.

The last pic actually makes him look like a normal faced dog haha. He's quite the handsome guy

Thats funny you said that, I met a guy who bought a baby lion collar for his dogue because it was outgrowing his collars too fast!
Moose is actually a bordeaux , he just lost alot of his wrinkles during his puppy stages, he is just starting to get is jowls at 9 months! Some people thought he was a bandogge at that age, which I can totally see.

I am on this forum because i always wanted a apbt but i wanted to so some research before I ever got a pup.

haha I know I get a good pic of him and its hazy. haha I didnt want to post too many non bully breed pics, since he is a molosser breed dog, but If you like them im full of them.
My family has 2 English mastiffs, 2 Bordeaux's, a pit lab mix, and a golden lab

He is an absolutely adorable pup but I can see the other person's POV completely. Spiked collars, chain collars, etc. do NOT make a good impression on JQP no matter how well behaved the dog is. They just see it & think "Oh, another thug with a pit bull."

Case in point - when we got our GSD Greta, she had a neon pink & green buckle collar with pink flamingos on it. Everyone loved her & could wait to hug her & pet her. I put a prong collar on her & suddenly people were afraid of her. Bottom line? People DO judge books by their cover. Perception is everything & if you're not making a positive contribution, then you're making a negative contribution.

That being said, while I do not agree with any type of chain, spike or any other kind of "little dick" collar, I think it is great you had enough sense to at least use a plastic chain & not put a metal chain on your poor puppy's neck. I wish everyone who fancies chain collars were as smart.

Another thing to add - make sure you put a buckle collar on him for walks b/c that plastic can break should he give it a pop. Should that happen you could have a loose puppy that could be stolen, hurt or even killed.

JMHO.

Blessings & whisker kisses ...

I love that picture of Moose in your sig. I'm jealous of both you and your family, I wanted a mastiff so bad, but I ended up with a Saint Bernard (which are sometimes called Alpine Mastiffs, so I guess I got my mastiff).

If you ever want to swap for a bit, let me know!
