Found out our city dog park has banned pit bulls
And I quote "The following are not permitted in the dog park: Pit Bulls or dogs having any characterisitics of the Pit Bull Breed" On the one hand it kind of sucks because the breed is posted up there and they are the only type of dog prohibited but at the same time I'm kind of glad because it will keep irresponsible pit bull owners from bringing their dogs to the dog park and therefor keep our breed out of the news. Atleast I hope. Now I avoid the dog park at all costs because I don't think its a good place for any dog, I had a dog a very good dog get attacked at the dog park once by a dog twice his size. And the owner was a jerk and encouraging the behavior. I saw another dog get attacked the same day by a different dog and neither owner was anywhere around. So I'm just not a fan of dog parks in general but I know a lot of people that do use them. What are your thoughts on them banning pit bulls from dog parks? My only fear is is BSL next or is this just a isolated thing. |

Well it a brand new park so its not like they were ever allowed but still I have mixed feelings
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ---------- Now I believe there is a clause in the law in our county that the only way BSL could be passed is if a statewide ban happened but I'm not sure about how well that really would work. Well I got to go |

I would be much more impressed with the city if that title had read "City bans dog parks"
I can dream. Maybe, by banning them from the dog parks some of the stupid crap that could lead to BSL won't happen. Maybe, as I expect there will still be catastrophes that happen there, since they are banned the city can't use them as the excuse for why these nasty things happened in the dog park. |

I'm sure the media would report some lab mix as a pit bull. |

I would be much more impressed with the city if that title had read "City bans dog parks" We have always been a very pit friendly community so it kind of surprised me to hear that the dog park banned them. But these are a breed prone to DA so I don't think they belong in dog parks anyway, for the safety of the breed. Heck most dogs don't belong in the dog park. |

I would be much more impressed with the city if that title had read "City bans dog parks" Whatever happened to going for a walk with your dog and allowing your dog to play with the dogs of friends/family if you think it needs other dog pals? Why must we go to the Facebook of parks, pretty much ignore our dogs and expose them nedlessly to disease and injury? I enjoy my time walking with my dogs alone. I love that they can play with friends dogs because A)my friends keep their vaccines updated and B) they control their pets. A way better arrangement than you are likely to find at a public park for sure. |

I think a lot more people need to keep their dogs on leashes.
The County park I go to has a dog control law "Dogs must be on leash or under voice control" I think the voice control bit was bad to add on there, because now everyone thinks they have voice control. I've only come across one owner, he had 2 border collie type dogs, and he was able to recall them, but all the other dogs go "ooh! another dog!" and run up. It drives me crazy. I always go only if its early in the morning when no one else is there yet except the joggers. I agree though, dog parks should be done away with. Keep dogs on a leash in public places and everyone will be happier and so many problems could be avoided... |

No offense to folks, but pit bulls do NOT belong in dog parks. It's better that there's no risk of accidents because idiot owners cannot or will not realize their dogs are dog reactive. ![]() |
