Default DA?? or not? and the reason why
so gigi is a brat and snotty when it comes to other dogs. My question is: "is there a way of knowing if the dog is a little 'DA' because of their temperment or because their lack of socializtion" I use DA loosely for her because she is not out for blood when she meets a dog. She will sniff the dog and be intrested and then she usually doesn't care anymore. And is kinda stiff/curious/unsure/uncomfortable. The shelter said she is dog friendly but can be snotty. Since I don't know how well socialized she was with other dogs before, I kinda think it could be a lack of socializtion. She gets along with dogs but she can be bratty at first (i think its because she is scared/uncomfortable). The first few dogs she met she would sniff them and then kinda 'snap' at them. Of course I would stop her and let her know that is not acceptable. But after meeting more dogs she is getting better and she won't be bratty instead she will just ignore them and avoid them. So do you think with more socialztion she will get better or is this DA?

About how old is she? It could be a combination of both.

Well like I said before it might be a combo of both... most bulldogs will turn on between a year and two years. Add to that her being unsocialized and yeah I could see this behavior being the result.

Just because you socialize her with other dogs, does not mean she won't turn on. There is a big chance she could.

I didn't say that. You just need to be prepared if she does turn on.

LOL, you'd better watch out for that one... or your inbox will be stuffed to the rafters.

Oh, and it's always a good idea to be prepared. Having a break stick on hand at all times is like having insurance. And you need to keep a level head and not freak if a fight breaks out.

And it's not really a matter of socialization. Socialization I feel is used too loosely. I've always seen it to be important when the dog is a pup and going through all those important developmental stages. As the dog gets older, it just means being able to go places and not act a fool and behave itself.

Socialization as a pup will help the dog learn to be more tolerant of other dogs as it matures, but it's not always 100% as genetics plays a big role, as does the individual personality of the dog. If she's a brat, odds are she may always be a brat.

You can try to further socialize her, but as was stated before, be careful, be alert, be prepared. As soon as you feel the situation is no longer comfortable, just remove her from it.

And always keep in mind that female dogs are called bitches for a reason.

Not true, girly... she don't have the right amount of grit to attract me. Cute lil thing though.

I meant be careful because it might not be JUST a socialization issue so socialize all you want but don't let down your guard because she might still turn on.

It could really be a combination of both. One way to test if it socialization can still remedy it is by doing this.. if your dog knows how to sit and stay, command your dog that. Then pet a dog while he is looking at how you do it. Then tell your dog, it's ok.. then let him come over to play with the dog. Well that's how I correct and enforced socialization to my AmBully.. but for my gamebreed.. I won't even try.. most even turn on at 6mos, I have a litter that really kills each other at the age of 3mos.

yeah i will stya alert because if anything happens it would be my ass and i am not having that. i dont expect her to be super friendly and play with everydog thats unrealistic but i want her to be more tolerant!

lmaooo yes!! i was thinking that alot lately! about female dogs are called bitches for a reason and she really is. lol

What blood? You mean bloodline? I have mostly jeep/redboy stock. Some maydays, redboy/jocko strain and few wildside.. which right now.. I'm campaigning. The pups that was killing each other at 3mos was from a litter of a heavy wildside on the bottom and heavy jeep on top.
