Default Scary night and Chev saves the day :D
ok i want to start off by saying Chevy my staffy bull is the friendliest dogs towards humans. she usually tries to pull me across roads to meet people and get a pat.

Last night i took chevy for a walk at around 930pm. We were walking along a pretty dark street and there was a man just standing against a fence in the dark looking really sus. As we got closer chev got into an aggressive stance, hair on her back up and started growling. i yelled at her not really thinking that it was strange and forced her to keep walking although she wasn't keen, she kept looking back at the man growling.
we continued on for around about 15 mins around a couple more blocks until we were around 300yards away from this park and again chev began growling, and not just a lil growl, she was really angry and she literally wanted to pull me to and across this park, so i decided to let her as i thought it was strange this time because she never ever growls like this.
As we got closer to the park still around 200 yards away. Chev started barking furiously and running as fast as she could with her lead at full extenstion. i looked up and seen a younger girl (around 16-18)yelling out as she was being grabbed at by this man we seen earlier.
at this stage i went into panic mode (never seen something like this happen in real life.) and let chevy's lead go. Chevy charged at 100miles an hours barking and launched herself at this man, and the man immediately let the girl go and done a runner. whilst chev chased for around 100 yards until i yelled at her to come back. i waited with the girl to see if she was ok. chevy came running back and jumped on this poor girl giving her lots of kisses lol like she usually does with everyone. we called the police and we waited with her.
it was strange but good at the same time i have never seen a dog never mind my own dog do something like this. it was like she knew that man was upto something bad, when i didnt even think twice about it.
if it wasnt for chev who knows what would have happened to this girl.

needless to say today Chev got the biggest bone my butcher could give me lol
GO Chevy

They have better instincts about when someone is off than we do. If you haven't already, learn to trust them.

TRUST your dog!! the first time my hubby came over to my house (when we FIRST started dating) I had my dog on the front porch, John thought nothing of it and came inside and spent time with me and met my family. The dog, Chance, was the best judge of character I have EVER seen, he let john pet him and come into the house AND leave the house (he had a way of letting you in but NOT out LOL). Fast forward 5 years...John and I were talking about Chance, who had just passed away at 11 years old, and i asked him if he remembered that first visit to my house, he did, I then asked did he realize why I had Chance at the door?....this is the funny part, John was floored when i told him this LOL....If Chance had accepted him, allowed him into the house or had refused to let him leave, John would never have become my husband, i would NOT have dated him if there had been any issues that first day....John's face was priceless when he was told this....his come back...I KNEW he was special to me, but dang! I still miss my old boy but I a thankful for the hubby he approved LOL

Good dog Chev! I always trust Odie's instincts! Although he has slept thru a car theft in the middle of the night but he was in our room on the other end of the house. If someone was outside and broke in he would be protecting his momma and kid.

Good dog! I hope the girl is ok and that the police find the creepy guy before something really bad happens.

Yep, dogs just know. I trust my dogs instincts totally. I am another woman that wouldn't have married the man I did if my dog (and everybody elses dog, come to think of it) didn't like him. In fact, my Patches (the dog I got after I was married to my first husband but before I met my current husband) didn't take treats from my ex husband..ever. And he was raised from a pup in the house with the man! It was one deciding factor in the divorce. If the dog didn't think him redeemable then I sure wasn't gonna try!

Once again proving that dogs are smarter than we give them credit for. Go Chevy!!

I had something similar happen when I was running Chicago at this elementry school at night. We just can't chance a loose dog running up to him, so hence the at night. Anyway we're playing tetherball; which is hilarious btw... and I look over to see some creepy dude sneaking up on us. I grab Chico because well, I didn't want to get in trouble for him biting the shit out of someone. He is a RR after all... The dude runs and when he's out of sight I let go and we start walking around to make sure he isn't going to lurk by my car... well the Cheekster caught up with him in the parking lot and did an absolutely perfect (untrained I might add) bark and hold. And the stubborn little bastard came perfectly when I called him. I was blown away by how he knew exactly how to handle the threat. Yay Rhodies!

Lily growled at my douchebag ex when she first met him. She never growls at anyone without cause so yeah ...

Wow, I'd say there's a certain four legged girl who deserves some recognition from your city. Four legs or two, a hero is a hero.

Great story. Many people forget bulldogs original use was in part to protect people (including complete strangers) from large animals that got loose in the old days. The instinct to help is strongly inborn in many of them to this day. Sounds like you have a good one there!

This is awesome. I felt very proud of Chev (even though it's not even a dog I know)...and I was so happy, but I wondered what happened to the girl.

That was very nice of her to thank your girl.
