Default Stray puppy - possible pit. Advice?
Hello, my sister just picked up this puppy as a stray. It wasn't really intended, apparently this little girl decided that the open car door was an invitation and here we are now, with Chloe. She's incredibly sweet, no food aggression. I've read a little about pits and looked at some pictures so I'm not really seeing full pit here.. maybe you could give your input?

My main concern is, although I know they are mostly very nice dogs, she has two cats and my niece on the way. The dog is terrified of everything that moves, she ran away peeing herself when they tried to throw a tennis ball and it was heartbreaking.

I may be overreacting. I have nothing against the dogs but with a baby on the way... Any advice on how to proceed with showing her the cats without losing one and getting a feel for her personality would be so much appreciated!

Thanks for any help. I hope I haven't stepped on any toes assuming this is a pit, I adore dogs but I can't honestly say I've ever owned a pit or know much about them.

She has a very pronounced stop (part where her nose meets her forehead), so I'm thinking Boxer is a possibility. Any full body pics of her standing?

Right now my guess is boxer/lab. but as popular as pit dogs are, it's very possible she has some bulldog in her.

Look up Boxador.

That was the fastest reply ever thank you! I'll try to get her to let me take a pic from the side, she's kinda scared of the phone. =P

Give her time to settle in. Read through the stickies, there's lots of info on introducing dogs to cats and babies.

If the dog's scared of everything, I wouldn't be too worried about the cats right now. After a few swats and scratches, many dogs learn quickly to leave the cats alone.

I'm reading through the stickies right now actually!

I just found about 90% of the info I needed via the stickies, I probably should have done that first. Thanks for your help anyway, I'm sure you get 5,000 of these posts a day and I appreciate you taking the time to answer me!

looks lab/pit to me, i don't see the underbite of a boxer, though she may not have gotten that part of it if she is boxer. her head is a little too round imo as well.
she is cute. good luck with her.

Its hard to tell what she is from the photos but with any mixed breed dog cant be sure what traits will be picked up.
How long has she had the dog ?

With a dog that is fearful could be caused from environment previous or current assuming it is from previous seeing how the dog is a stray just need to take time and build trust with the dog take it slow and do not over whelm the dog with stuff I would not throw balls or anything for a little while allow the dog time to adjust. Let things happen do not force things on the dog and with time a bond and trust will be formed does not take long at all. Do not baby the dog if she gets scared some times its better to let them work thru it by themselves people have a habit of over reacting and reinforcing the fear.

Then you have some dogs that are weak nerved and scared of everything and that is how the dog is. With time some people can manage a weak nerved dog. I personally would not allow a weak nerved dog around my young children. Many people will disagree with that statement but I am not willing to take a chance with children.
So before the baby is born need to find out if the fear can be over come maybe a behaviorist can help.

If she were picked up by AC they would label her as a pit bull.
Her face sure does look like my APBT Sil in my avatar.
