Thought this was kind of interesting...

Not surprising to me at all. I got to thinking about this when my daughter was on vacation with her grandmother out of state and got bitten by a Pomeranian. She had her lip torn, but no one thought it worth a trip to the ER, a call to AC or even a call to me! I found out when I saw the healed wound when she came home. This was about 6-8 years ago and she still has the scar. After the incident, I got to wondering how often it happens with the smaller dogs.

Not really surprising to me.

I have been around a lot of doxens, only have met one sweet one.

Here is my theory (no it's not the minivan one. yet) feel free to chew it up and spit it out as I'm sure there are some holes in there.

I read some of the comments on that link and one of the common points seems to be "they are small so they don't do as much damage and people don't get as frightened"

There is some truth in that.

Why as they conducted this study did it turn out that the 3 "most aggressive dogs" are all ankle biters?

My theory is that these are small dogs owned by people that (in general) could not handle a big dog. They are indoor, fur child, fashion accessory dogs quite often and as such don't get treated like a dog.

By that I mean they are never trained properly, they are rarely contained properly, the owners seldom correct them or really seem to worry about the behavioral issues they may have.

Because (as the comments on the link stated) they are seen as cute little fur kids that couldn't hurt anyone.

Don't give a damn, dog bites can lead to infections, dog bites can spread disease, etc. etc.

These twits need to be held to the same standards as they expect us to be.

That's my theory. The minivan one is better but I can't drink at work

Ya I wasnt suprised myself. We go camping at the desert all the time in the winter and Harley always comes with us (everyone loves him) and one lady in our group brought her doxie who was DA and HA... but her owner just said "shes just a brat but shes sweet" as her dog lunged at anyone who came within 5 ft of her and I walked up with Harley to a group who was talking and Harley calmly sat down next to me completely ignoring her dog and suddenly the little poop shot out of her lap and came after Harley. Thankfully I got him behind me and she caught her dog in time but she just laughed and said "She thinks shes a big dog" right. If my dog had done that the world would have ended. Sad when I have to protect my 'pit bull' from a doxie.

Ill never get people who think its acceptable or cute when their little dogs try and 'pick on' big dogs or when they 'think they are big dogs' Maybe one day all dogs will be treated equal.... we can hope at least.. then maybe our bully breeds wont be viewed as the mosters...

Don't forget that a lot of these smaller dogs were bred for a working purpose and the owners don't give them an outlet for that energy so they become aggressive and ruthless little snots.

I'm babysitting a printer as we test some new inks so that was kind of a rush while I was waiting on it to do what it was doing.

What really frosts me is these people are going "my little whatever wouldn't hurt anyone"

Well, when their little whatever that they don't contain runs up and tries to attack a bully breed that belongs to someone who doesn't really understand DA and is still trying to get the basics down with their dog, and that bully breed eats their little whatever then that little shit has hurt someone. It has hurt the owner of the bully breed who will most likely have their dog taken, it has hurt and quite probably killed 2 dogs (the only good part is it could be argued that it committed suicide by attacking a bully breed), and it has caused more damage to public perception due to the incident.

Size and breed does not matter. If it has teeth it can cause problems. These people need to be hit just as hard with leash laws, containment restrictions, fines, and whatever else. They need to get it through their damn heads that it isn't a toy, it isn't a kid, it's an animal that can bite and cause problems.

I couldn't agree more. Dachshunds can be NASTY little dogs!! But people FORGET they were bred to HUNT and KILL BADGERS!! And those fuckers are mean as hell!!!

Though if you met my Dachshund he would make you question that.....he's a bit stupid. But SUPER sweet, hasn't snapped or bit anyone, but then again I treat him like a DOG not a person. People look at me funny because my Dachshund walks on a leash and isn't fat.

Thankfully my neighbor rears in his little jrt. If one of us is outside first the other will put their dog in the house. We have a slat missing in our fence thankfully not big enough for either dog but Odie will put his nose in the fence and that little jrt will try to bite Odie. Odie has gotten to not going near the hole in the fence, and knows when I say come he comes because that little dog wants to eat him.

Some weiner dog tried to attack Irie and I this morning on our walk. I was horrified as the thing was lunging and snapping at us, the owner just stopped...help the leash bent over and in a whisper baby voice said "no no...no"

Irie just looked at me like "this lady and dog are nuts!"

Unfortunately, that post is two years old. I have, however, met some nasty and temperamental Dachshunds.
