My Phoenix neighborhood is practically swimming in bully breeds and every single dog I've met here is polite and well behaved. I know one neighbor of mine has a very aggressive (after being attacked several years ago) girl but the owner is responsible and keeps her out of sight.
My dog is loved throughout the neighborhood and I've never heard a bad word about her. Walks are fun when it's not hot out and people are about as Ivy gets to visit with everyone. I've only had two people react badly towards her. Once when we first got her and our HOA manager tried to claim that pitbulls and other aggressive breeds were banned under the HOA agreement (100% not true, there isn't a single mention of breed restrictions in the documents and the dozens of other bully's in our area have shown no signs of leaving). The other time was at a campsite with an overreactive mother. Understandable, but we didn't even get an opportunity to show her how well behaved she is from a distance. ![]() |

I live outside of Tampa and usually it's a very bully friendly area. Amazingly I find that people in their 30-40's around here are the ones with the issues when I walk Odie. The older people, I live in what is mostly a retirement town where the snow birds come to roost love bully breeds. I've taken Odie to the car shows and town town festivals and haven't ever had a problem. Except maybe some looks but the majority of people love Odie.

Its hit and miss here. Some people really love the bullies and some hate them. I have had Ike for almost 2 years and the neighbor across the street as well as the one next door to me haven't even given him a pet although Ike has tried to make friends by using the sad AB face as a ploy for attention. They also won't even come near Rita. The other lady across the street and the neighbor on the other side of me love both Ike and Rita and so do their kids.
At the city park I like to walk in I have had some rude looks, rude comments, people obviously avoiding walking near the dogs and the like. I have also had people practically making out with my dogs and others who stop for a quick petting and to ask what Ike is since AB's aren't too common around here. The people at the park who want to love on my dogs usually say something like " I had one once. Best dog I ever owned" or " I have a Pit Bull at home." My closest friend and her boyfriend just got a female Pit pup they named Missy. Missy lives with my friend since her boyfriend cannot have a dog where he lives. He is in the process of trying to buy a house. He just got divorced and is starting over. He has his two young daughters on the weekends and when they told their mother that daddy got a doggie said mother flew off the handle when she discovered the breed. Prejudice is everywhere. |

My area to me seems very friendly towards bully and mastiff breeds. Except the Sheriff's office which now runs animal control and since they took over will not adopt out pit bulls (rotties, chows, and akitas too).
Casper my Dogo draws people in. We go to the yearly fall festival and I keep saying we should be an exhibit b/c Casper has to have his picture taken with over 100 kids. They will get us cornered and they are on him. He adores children, but I sometimes wonder about people shoving newborns and infants in the face of a dog that weighs over 100lbs. Granted I know he wouldn't hurt them, but they don't! Now when my Dobes were alive, more people were afraid of them. They avoided Gunner like he had the plague b/c he had cropped ears. |

Very hit and miss in my neighborhood. Lots of people actually have them in my area so I will get stopped often to talk about them. I find many people intrigued by them lol. I actually got stopped the other day by some guy wondering why I walk them separately (they completely get along but I'm a small person and they overpower me easily together so I'm not taking ANY chances). But on the other hand I consistently have people cross the streets etc to not even be near us when we walk. My neighbors on each side of me actually love the dogs because they look intimidating and pretty much keep any solicitors away lol.

yea.. i see soo many pits around this town, and the past few weeks everywhere we go people usually call her breed right off the bat "American Pit Bull right?" followed with "she's beautiful!". everytime i expect some kind of trouble though, just my personality type to expect the worst, and then im relieved it doesnt happen.. we took her to a state park/dam, and the ranger drove up as we were getting out of the car.. i thought he was gonna ask to see proof of shots but he just went on about how cute she is. took her to the laundromat, same story. the owner walked up and i thought for sure he was going to tell us to take her away but he just wanted to pet her. I know the next town over has a mandatory spay/neuter law for pits, and that they have to be registered with the city, etc. but here it seems like everyone and their grandma has one. Ive only run into one lady who yelled at her kid "DONT walk up to THAT dog!!" then she saw me grinning and shaking my head and tried to recover, "uh, because its still a puppy and their training it" but i ran into her twice more at the same park and she steered her kids all the way around us mumbling to them about dangerous dogs while the kids just rolled their eyes and wanted to pet the adorable puppy.

I hike with Socrates a lot and whenever we see people on trails, they are afraid of him....but I don't think most of those people are from my town. When I walk Socrates in town, cars stop and business owners come out to yell "SOCRATES!!!". He is very well known and people love him. It all started with a public display of tricks on the sidewalk when I gave some kids some treats and let them do some obedience and tricks with him. Ever since then there are at least 6 or 7 people who are always in town that run outside to say hi when we walk by. All of the mail men know him too, and they love him. They slow down and hang out the window to say hi when they pass us. There's an old guy that drives a blue buick and when Socrates sees his car come around the corner he gets in a perfect sit and wags his tail like wild waiting for the guy to slow down and give him a biscuit and a pat on the head. People LOOOOOVE my dog...so yea it's pretty pit friendly lol.

I live in Richmond, Va. Most people seem quite positive and open towards Aggs. As with a lot of the others here, I don't think they necessarily view her as a pit bull. We get stopped in the street all the time by people who remark on how cute and affectionate she is, ask where we got her etc..
There are quite a few bully breeds in the neighborhood and most, surprisingly, seem to be quite well taken care of. |

I live in Onscario, northern coast line Lake Erie (no specific city named) and despite the ban we have province-wide; there is a bundle of APBT-types wandering around our city w/o muzzles and apparently (for the boys anyway) in possession of their jewels. I will say their young-ish owners always have them on leash and they always appear to be well-behaved, often in the company of small children; rarely in the company of other dogs :} We have a number of pretty lenient animal shelters as well; APBT-types get rehomed very often; if they are legal they are described as such; otherwise they get described as a mix (usually Boxer or Rottie I'm guessing to explain the build), and are tested for dog aggressive and it is listed on their card.
Oddly enough we seem to be a pocket of sanity in the insanity that is Ontariostan. |

Where I live in California it`s a 50%-50%. people that have had dogs all there lives don`t have a problem.I walk the dogs nightly and am always amazed how I could be talking to people we meet and there kids are petting the dogs until they ask what kind of dogs are those.the people that react negatively are usually new dog owners or ones swayed by the mention of the name pit bull and what they think it means.
I have had people not want there dogs to play with my female Zena because she`s brindle and thats there idea of what a pit bull is. Both my dogs are people and dog friendly. Here`s Reno and Zena |

When I walk sugar she is usually so attached to my heel she doesnt see much. When she is in her little area where she pees (we live in an aparment for now, suppliment with walks) she does jump and growl at people. I am tring to counter act with puppy training that just started last week. All the people in the complex know what she is there is even another pit in the area so there is no fear they know I'm working hard with her so she be a sweet and happy dog. On the other hand when I take her to the vet and to traing she'll run up to other people and say hi and wag her tail from side to side, accept for the vet themselves. I dont know if it is just comming down to she knows her little area and is protecting it or what.

Everywhere I go I get compliments on how beautiful Harley is and almost everytime I go to petsmart someone says something along the lines of "I bet he's great with your son" (they say it in a way like they are telling me, because I couldn't possibly have known that myself having a pit and 2 year old haha).
The worst I've had is a lady down the street will cross it if my dog is out front or we are passing on our walks but she's very casual about it and I think its more a matter my dog whines like crazy at her 2 snack sized dogs and (understandably) it makes her a little nervous (and of course I'm 5'6 and a whole 100lbs and walking dog in one hand and pushing my son in the other, I'm sure many of my looks come from people wondering if I can control my dog not if he will eat them haha). So over all I'd say this area (to my suprise) is bully friendly |
