Default Honesty in looks
Now I've seen some ugly, average, ok looking pups and dogs since I can remember. I would never rain on someone elses parade or intentionally offend an owner or their APBT but I notice that no matter what, comments like "great looking boy" or "what a cutie" or "I want him/her" is being posted. Now don't get me wrong, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and someone may think my champ isn't all that great but where is the honesty? Would you have it in you to say "He is ok but not my cup of tea" or "I don't think he/she is that cute but love him/her anyway"

My honesty might get some backlash but I just wanted to know if it was just me that thinks this way

Well, I figure if you don't like someone's dog, its better to not say anything than to say something negative. I'm sure everyone is proud of their dog, and don't want to read negative comments on them.

I agree but if their asking for opinions, then where does the integrity fit in?

I've seen plenty of people respond with critiques if someone's asking how their dog would hold up in the show ring.

But for the most part, people just want to show off their dogs. What's the point in being a dick and saying, "Actually, I think your dog is pretty ugly?"

"Actually, I think your dog is pretty ugly" is pretty harsh and yes that person would be a "dick" by saying that.

Haha, I've actually had people tell me that Marsha is ugly (online and 'in real life'). Even though I personally think she is kind of fugly too, I still think its inappropriate to outright tell someone that their beloved pet is ugly. (Even if its true.)

C'mon do you honestly beleive their are NO ugly dogs? The beauty is inside for the owner that is but for a complete stranger just driving by seeing an overbred pocket hippo looking bully with chains and spikes, that would be a different story

Yeah pretty much,
And overbred pocket bully i may feel bad for, because it's suffuring because of it's looks, but that doesn't mean i don't think it's face is cute. Just like i hate how the english bull dog is bred, and i'd never buy one. But do i think it's cute? yes
I don't try to find the ugly in things, if when i first look at something i see ugly, i search for something nice about it. I don't like negetive thoughts. I don't like being superficial, i look deeper and TRY to find something nice about it.

I would never tell someone their dog is ugly... to them that dog is beautiful in whatever way they see it. I do however think Chinese crested powder puffs are fugly... that's just my opinion. I don't know if have ever seen any ugly APBT or APBT mix... but I just love the breed.

if someone posted a pic of their dog and I thought it was ugly, I would just ignore the thread....
if they asked for a critique of their dog, I would probably point out any flaws I saw..
if they asked me if I thought their dog was ugly, I would probably just say, I have seen uglier, but not many....

Well said. I respect your personal opinion but for others that are actually purchasing a pup when money is involved, its kind of hard using that example but I definitely see where your heart is

I get sick of everything being about looks.
"Yeah, that's a happy and healthy dog you got there. Looks like you're totally in love with him. That's sweet, but he is just gross looking." Pathetic.

My mom told me that Jilly is the ugliest dog that she's ever seen . Oh well, I think she's adorable and that's what matters!

I would never call someone's dog ugly, that's just rude IMO. Why call someone's dog ugly who they think it beautiful?

I wouldn't like someone calling my dogs ugly, so why should I tell someone theirs is? I don't think any dog is ugly though to be honest. I like them all.

I don't find many dogs ugly. Even dogs with noticable flaws, but I have seen some. Mainly those Ambullies with extremely exaggerated wide legs or heads way too big for the body. I think some of the Chinese Crested are fugly, but in a cute way! Especially the one that the tongue sticks out the side of their mouth!

However I would hard pressed to tell someone their dog was ugly b/c I was raised to keep my mouth shut if I didn't have anything nice to say!

On here if I see someone asking opinions or such and I dont think their dog is that great looking I just wont comment. 'If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all" right? haha in real life if someone asked an opinion on their dog and I thought their dog wasnt that cute I would try and go for a personality trait I liked (if the dog was a sweety just ugly as all get out or whatever) then I would casually just play up how sweet the dog was saying something like "you could be the ugliest dog on the planet but with a personality like yours no one could call you ugly" that kinda thing.

I worked in a groomer and met MANY dogs I thought were so ugly (I dislike the looks of more breeds than I like the looks of honestly) but I really got a dose of just how sweet some of th ugliest dogs are (pekenese for example, UGLY dogs imho but the ones I met just wanted to climb up me and cuddle and give kisses, how can you call that ugly when they are so sweet, you see a different side once you know the dog). Im also a sucker for big brown eyes, and since most dogs have brown eyes I have a default compliment I can go to if I cant figure out what else to say.

I know I wouldnt want people telling me my dog is ugly. Just like I wouldnt want to hear my son is ugly. Slightly different as I didnt 'create' my dog but still I love him just the same and dont want to hear that hes ugly... unless I bring it up and someone politly and nicely agrees... but I think a compliment should always follow even if your agreeing with the owner that their dog is ugly. But thats just me.
