Mercedes is my 'rescued' girl.I at first thought she may be an american bull dog. She then weighed 54lbs at the vets office. Now I am not sure WHAT type of bully breed she is.(I am thinking a really small AB,or an APBT x AB)
What do you all think???? ![]() She looks so differantly built from Bella(My APBT)........ ![]() Laying down ![]() |

I read there are 2 'types' of ABs one with a more 'pit bull' face and one with more of a 'boxer' face. The face reminds me of an AB. But then again it reminds me a LOT of my Harleys face and everyone on here said he looks like an amstaff or bully... so who knows.. but shes ADORABLE! Her name fits her well too!

She looks American Bulldog to me. American Bulldogs have a wide variety of looks. There are suppose to be 4 types, but even then, a lot of them look different. American Bulldogs @ Doggehouse: American Bulldog history
I fostered a American Bulldog for American Bulldog Rescue and she was only around 55lbs. She was purebred, but just small. She was the same height as my Amstaff and similar build. |

She sure looks part AB to me. If she were a tad bigger and had a shorter snout I would say all AB, so I am guessing an AB mix with maybe some APBT or Am Staff. Someone asked me is Bella was a pure APBT.Yes, she is. Both parents(according to the dogs caregivers) were papered, but they didn't want the pups to be so.Too much hassel and they did not want the pups being bred/faught.The guy who owned them had moved and left the parent dogs and pups with his grandparents, since he couldnt take them. The dam had a infection in her womb post delivery and died, they still had the father when I went to pick up Bella. So yes, purebred-no papers. |

Its possible she's pure AB, but I just can't see it. Even a Johnson/Scott hybrid looks more typey than what I see in the pics. She could be of Painter lines. Painter lines are said to have had Pit Bull mixed in at some point (although this is denied by the founder) and are smaller and have longer snouts.

I went looking through an old book of mine. Dave Puntanm's The Working American Bulldog. Published a lil over 10 years ago, but a great read if you can find it. I got mine used from barnes and noble's used and out of print section.
Anyways, on pg 126 I found a female named Snap who was out of Painter and Scott lines and she looked very much like your girl! It's a pic of a pic, so not that great. ![]() |
