Default Is anyone else waiting??
I joined this forum when my boyfriend tried giving me a BYB ambully "pit bull" gift...then I looked the gift horse in the mouth and found that it was DEFINITELY going to be cowhocked. I told the boyfriend I just couldn't support that kind of breeding...

So I found my perfect breeder and put a deposit down on a puppy, but that was over a month ago and she's still not born yet!!! (She's due on the 6th, so hopefully any day now...)

Man, I'm dying over here...
I've almost got his/her name picked out and I've buffed up on how to handle puppies...
I've already got her food/water bowls, leashes, collars until she's full grown, toys, kennel, two beds, nail clippers, toothbrush, training whistle, and walking stick for when we go hiking.

There is literally no more nesting to be done!!

Is there anyone else suffering with me?!

Sighhhhhhhh

Thanks!

I had a girl last night trying to tell me to make doubly sure that I wasn't getting a puppy mill dog. I'm like HAHAHA holy crap you don't know what I went through to make sure I got a reputable breeder! (It's pretty hard to willingly give up a cute lil pup just to put money on one that isn't here yet....)

it is hard.. our newest pup came from a BYB.. but we only got him AFTER we refused to purchase from them and only because he was in severe condition.. and in all honesty, it would have been cheaper and less stress to purchase from a rep. breeder, but we only took him because of his condition (they were tired of messing with him.. and didnt want to waste the money and were going to dump him off)... this pic is of him 1 1/2 weeks after treatment.. and we are still not done with his treatments.

this crap that is done with him is what BYBs do.. (or dont do).. even though his story is sad and I am glad he is in our lives.. we tookhim off their hands and gave them reason to keep breeding and neglecting them.. (but we did press charges)..

Oh the poor lil guy
I will bet you anything that he is going to repay you for the rest of his life. He will definitely be worth the effort.

Yeah...the last time I went looking at the shelter, I ended up with a very tiny dog who cropped up a very big case of HA and almost ruined my left hand.

Well, I am waiting on my next pup on a couple different things, however, I have a few good breeders in mind, and if one happens, I am going to have to convince Stan, because I don't believe I can pass it up. lol. No more byb bred dogs for me or from me.

Good thinking planning ahead like you are. I'm not waiting like you are. I have a good 3-4 year wait I'm afraid before I'll be ready to adopt my next dog a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Got to wait for my daughter to be older and our house to be complete. It seems like forever though.

yea, I got Goren from a rescue, and I am planning on getting my female from them if they have one that fits my life at the time I have room (atm they have a 5 week old that will be up for addoption in 3 weeks so I am preying I will have a job and be moving by then so I can look at her >.< ) I wont adopt a dog with any temperment problems, I wont adopt an insecure or over dominant pup either, I want one that is balanced so I deal with less issues later, that sucks that you ended up with a HA dog, did the shelter know that the dog was HA to start with and were there signs before you adopted it? (Im asking for my benifit so I can know more detail into what to watch out for before I let my emotions take over)

The shelter said that she was a perfect family dog. Strangely enough, she was definitely the perfect dog until a month and a half in. I took a vacation from work and the change just didn't sit well with her when I went back to work. She started peeing everywhere and her eating changed. The bite came out of NO WHERE and I had to end the whole thing.

People said I should have put her on meds and tried to figure it out...that euth was too harsh... but I decided I like my hands too much to experiment with what was the matter with her.

wow yea, it sounds like some crazy change, I would have euthed her too, like I said I do not deal with HA, I do not deal with it with any breed really, I mean an accedent is one think but a deliberate bite that is threating life or limb = pts in my book. thank you for the info, I wonder if it was a sever allergic reaction though, like something that changed her brain because of an allergy its just weird how that happend.

Well, I've heard of little dogs, specifically cocker spaniels that get "cocker rage" from hormornal imbalance- so maybe that was her deal?

You made a good choice. I have a BYB special. I got him from the shelter though (they said that he was a stray) but I get so many compliments on his beautiful color (I presume he was bred for that pretty color) hes allergic to grass and by 8 months old he was showing signs of hip problems... fortunatly hes a wonderful dog even though hes taking up ever spare penny we have and I just wish I could give whoever bred him a piece of my mind... so its well worth the wait if you took the time to find a good breeder (not saying I regret my pound puppy at all, incase it sounds that way, hes awesome, hes just got medical issues which Im sure a responsible breeder could have easily avoided)

i wish i were waiting on a pup. i have puppy fever SO bad. I'm actually not a big fan of puppies. I see then as an annoying stage to be endured in the lead up to getting a dog! There are very few people who will sell a proven adult dog around my area so its puppy or buy someone's mutt.

Waiting is terribly hard! I'm waiting for an undetermined amount of time. Once you find the dogs you want, and a breeder who does everything you are looking for.... the waiting begins. I try not to dwell too much on my wait, but without a definate date its probably a bit easier on me than on you. Having said that, I have also made purchases for when the puppy comes - just too fun not to!
