Default My family is going to do a foster to adopt today!!
hi, i am so excited!!
today my family will be doing a foster to adopt with this beautiful 1 year old spayed female pit bull! We already own a male nuetered pit bull mix who is 3 years old. They have already met twice, they get along so well already! shes a doll, the shelter have only been socializing her for the last 2 weeks. she has been at the shelter for about a month.

this is my first time owning two dogs any words of advice, things you wish you knew about owning two pit bulls? i know dont leave them unsupervised. Ive been reading alot about owning two dogs. I want to do a 2 week shut down (more or less). like it says dont excerise the dog for the two weeks, I couldnt do that to a dog, i still plan on walking her daily. I will limit her access around the house, only the living room and kitcher and keep a leash on her, so she is near me. I will also gate her during the night, atleast 2 hours during the day (without me leaving the house).

As you already mentioned, no unsupervised time together.

I like to walk my dogs separately for two reasons, one if a stray dog shows up, I only have to deal with one of my dogs, and two, it gives you more one on one quality time with the dog.

I have noticed my dogs get "jealous" if the other is being petted, so, if you are petting one, try to get someone else to pet the other. lol.

Good advice. I would have been screwed if I'd had Lynley with us when Lily got attacked by a loose dog. He's not my dog, but he's with us all the time and he would have not stopped until that other were dead if he'd seen it tear into his Lily. He's not even a bulldog, but he's still no joke.

Be sure to keep any high value objects like favorite toys, etc out of the picture also. And give each one some "momma" time so they don't feel left out and get good one on one time with you.

You are going to post lots of pics of the new girl right?

Sounds like you are on the right path.

Just a thought, do you own a break stick? If not, I'd invest in one before she comes to visit.... I always say, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Hopefully, you won't have any problems, but you always want to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Mine get along fairly well, but they are never left alone together, not even while I take a shower. I bring one into the bedroom with me and shut the door.. usually Bella, because she will chase Cross, and Mollie won't waste any energy on him!

i dont think i will have enough energy after work to take each of them out on their own hour walk/jogs. but its a great idea

and

luckily we do not have any strays by my house we live in the burbs and i have never seen a stray anywhere around here.

Great advice has been given. You can get a breakstick from Colbydogs who is a member here that sells them.

You can also get a few from Pit Bull Rescue Central.

Responsible uses of a Breakstick

Good luck and post more pics once she is settled in.
