Default odd CL request
I saw an ad on my local Craigslist that caught my eye... a mother was looking for people who have friendly loving pets ( mainly dogs) that she could bring her 4 year old daughter to meet and pet and play with. because her daughter loves animals and while they cant afford to have more pets they want her exposed to a large amount of animals..

I have to say I was intrigued, so I sent her a letter explaining that I have an APBT and a apbt/pony/idiot mix and asked her if she was okay with her girl meeting my brats ( one at a time of course and in neutral territory.. like a park) surprisingly the Mother was VERY okay with pitbulls and has family members who have a pit mix.

so we are in the process of setting up a playdate at a park a few miles away. We are of course being very careful about this.. since its CL and people off the net can be creepy little bastards.. but if this is legitimate We feel its a wonderful opportunity on both ends.. on my end I get to educate someone MORE about pits and Lexi gets to be her complete attention whoring self.. and a little girl gets to cuddle with and spend time with a happy dog( and if all goes well she will at another time get to spend time with a goofy barking pony)

I will keep everyone updated on the details.. and if all goes well I should have some pictures of Lexi getting mauled by a 4 year old human thingy very soon!

awww that is a odd CL request and a good one, I hope it all goes well, sounds like a dream date to me, I would love to be able to have Goren play with more children than he gets to.

I think it's great. I really think people should set up rent a dog places in major cities for those who just want to hang out with dogs but don't have the lifestyle to own them.

Bring someone with you, preferably a large male counterpart, just in case. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I wouldn't go alone, even with my dog.
But I hope you can work it out and she doesn't turn out to be an ax murderer!

Would you believe those already exist? I remember reading about it in NYC a couple years ago. For people who don't have time or room to dedicate to a dog full time, you can rent one on the weekends. Craziness.

Haha! No way, that's funny. I personally could never rent out one of my dogs but I think it might be a great idea for shelters and good screening.

That is really cool! I wish we had more opportunities to educate people in the way that you will get to.

Rent-a-dog places do exist. Actually the no-kill shelter here (which I used to volunteer for until I realized they were harboring an HA collie mix) has doggy dates. This is where people can come out and take a dog out for the day or even over night. Yes, it's good that these dogs get a taste of life outside the shelter but there are crazy people out there.

Go for it, and yeah, bring a friend. Sinead loves kids. She earned me a free beer last weekend from a guy who had his kid at the bar (it overlooks a lake, so they were taking a break after fishing). He said he wanted a dog, but wanted to see if his son would be gentle with them first. Sinead was a perfect little breed ambassador, and his son was very polite and well-behaved.
