Default Is there any breed that you are afraid of?
I don't mean is there a breed you "hate" or "dislike" or whatever, I just mean a breed you are generally afraid of.

Mine is the Doberman.

I have been afraid of them since I was a kid.

The other day I was walking Bransen, and there was a huge Dobe tied in the back of a truck.
I didn't see him until I was right beside the truck, and he sprung up barking like crazy.
I almost screamed!

I don't know what it is about them, but something about the Dobe just scares the living crap out of me.
The only one's that I have met have been sweet as pie, so I don't know.

Even though they scare me, I of course still respect other's rights to own and love them.
As far as I am concerned, they are gorgeous dogs.
I have nothing against them, I would just prefer not to be around them and so I make an effort to see to it that I am not.
Pretty simple.

Just wondering, though, if anyone else has a breed that scares them?
Do you know why or have a specific reason?
Do you still respect others' rights to have them?

No, I am not afraid of any dog breed. I might act differently depending on breed.. Like an aloof or guarding breed, I will be more calm and friendly, letting the dog come to me... Unlike with a bulldog, I'll immediately pet and play with a friendly bulldog.

But that's just common sense when you know your dog breeds. Not a fear.

Just like when I met a cane corso boy, who was pretty timid. I stood and spoke with his owner and let him check me out until he was comfortable with me.

I've been bitten by labs and cocker spaniels more than anything, but I don't fear them at all.

Lhasa Apsos.

Just kidding, but despite all the German Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobies, etc, I've been around, that's the only breed that I've ever been viciously attacked by. That dog was fucked in the head.

Actually, I'd certainly be a bit wary of something like a Bully Kutta, but that's kind of like being wary of a adult wolf or something

I will admit I get a little nervous around poodles, since, I was attacked by one as a child, though, I've met one or two I like.

I, also, get a little nervous around GSDs.

I had to look those up...

"When not fed properly they have been known to prey on their owners."

Well, that's good motivation to take care of your dog.

CHOW CHOWS! I was mauled by one when I was 6 and I have a scar on my back from the vicious dog. My sister was attacked by one, the kid down the street was attacked by her own chow, got her finger bit off, my cus nearly got her eye bit out by a chow, my brother got bit in the rear by my aunts chow, then it mauled the weenie dog and tried attacking one of the kids friends. . . need I say more?

I have seen nothing but bad things come from that Breed and I refuse to enter a house that has a chow or be near one. they are really unstable dogs imo.
and I wont suger coat this... I DONT LIKE THEM!!!!!!! PERIOD, I hate everything about that breed.

I forgot about chows. Yeah, in my experience, those dogs are nuts. I used to work at a kennel and every single time we got a chow it'd be nasty and unpredictable...even the puppies were biters.

I had to work with some fairly human aggressive dogs there, and didn't have a problem with any of them, but the chows. I could get a "reading" on other breeds. The chows are like flatline. There's no "emotion" or whatever behind those dogs.

I think its sad when people can hate an entire breed based on a few bad incidents. I mean, I'm very sorry when people, especially children, are hurt by dogs...and I think, when it happens at such a young age, its harder to overcome that fear and hate.

I'm not afraid of any breed of dog, but I'm more cautious around Rottweilers than I am any other breed. I was bitten by one when I was very young, and I just carry that with me.

But, I've met more friendly Rotts than aggressive ones, lol.

OT, sorta kinda, and totally NOT directed at anyone in particular, just an observation I've made.

I think its sad how many people treat Chows the way that APBT's are treated. Sure, I've met aggressive Chows, but I've also met aggressive pit bulls. You'd think, that if you own a breed that carries such a bad wrap, you'd be a bit more understanding towards other breeds who also have a bad wrap.

Seems slightly hypocritical to me.

Hmm, from what I know of chow chows, they are ONE person dogs. They're stubborn, aloof, and tough. They are not violent wackjobs, it's that most CC owners do not know how to handle a working dog like that. They get an adorable fluffball and aren't a good leader or owner...
Chow Chow Information and Pictures, Chow Chows

In fact, there was a stray chow chow, pure bred by his looks, who was living under an empty house's porch a few streets over. He'd wander the neighborhood looking for food, mating, who knows. I started going to "Wesley" and feeding him. He'd grumble at me from under his porch and then come out to eat... Sadly he was near feral and was PTS by AC. He never went after me, though I had my hand within a foot of his face many times.

How much do you actually know about chow chow history/temperament?

The Shih Tzu. I'm absolutely terrified of Shih Tzu's. Had one when I was a kid I was about 7 and he attacked my mom one day and he tried to attack my baby sister. He also took a good chunk of skin out of my best friends leg. He had a neurological problem but still he was a dangerous dog. After he attacked my mom well that was it. We only had him 3 years, he was had been abused before we got him and had a lot of behavioral problems.

To this day I can't help but get a nervous/fearful feeling whenever I see a shih tzu. I flinch when one goes to lick me just a knee jerk response. I don't hate the breed, just because of that experience with my dog I'm terrified of them. Its more subconscious than anything. I can be around them just fine but I am very very nervous when i am.

Sorry...

I have a pom/shih right now... I have a love for Shih-tzu's because of their crazy characters. But I won't lie, I've met a couple who'd eat me.

Hey Like I said I don't hate the breed. I don't hate any breeds. It was just something that really affected me. Its one thing to get bit by a dog that doesn't live with you. But to live 3 years with this dog and just watch him get worse and worse it affected me. If a Shih Tzu needed me in the future would I help it, yeah. But give me a Pit Bull, Rottie, Chow Chow, Dobie (any breed the public has a bias against) any day before a Shih Tzu.

I understand, but my God they are adorable... I can't be scared of anything that has huge, watery eyes like that

Growing up my dogs were attacked three times by pit bull dogs... I had a horrible fear of them until I finally did some researching and learned about them.. I mean, I'd seriously tremble, and have an adrenaline rush if one touched me.

I lied, I am scared of some dog breeds... The ones who DROOL like crazy.

The only shih tzu I know is awesome. She thinks she is a person (with manners) and just walks up to everyone like they are her long lost best friend.

I'm not afraid of any breeds, but I haven't met too many. Dachshunds I've seen eye to eye with....
Well they see their teeth on my shoe mostly.

I love all breeds of dogs but chihuahuas make me nervous just because they are a lot of attitude in a tiny package and I have been bit by a few. I know it's silly to be scared of such a dog.

I don't hate them, but I don't favor them either. I think they know that.

I used to be nervous around chows, too that was until I met a sweet one who changed my mind at the shelter. She was one of a kind though. A total love bug.

You can say that again. By the way is it true that Pit Bulls don't drool? I was told they don't and the ones I have been around don't seem to.
