Default Something random that bothers me.
I just have to ask a question.

Why...WHY...when you (general, not directed at anyone in particular ) have a problem with your dog, do you have to specify breed? In example:

"My pit has a bald spot, what do I do?"
"One time my pit and this other dog....."

I guess the whole "My pit" thing is what bugs me I just always say "my dog" or address them by name.

Maybe I am just not in the cool kid crowd

Maybe the member has a multi-breed household?

Oh I hear you. I use my dog's name not the breed plus all of mine are mutts.

Every dog has something wrong with it at some point regarding health issues..

Unless it's a genetic thing like allergies in 'pit bulls' I don't mind them being breed specific since they are prone to allergies.

If it's just something like a bald spot as you used as an example bothers me if they are breed specific. But if they don't know in general, they should consult their vet. It doesn't hurt to ask though, but they don't have to be breed specific.

Well, I'm not explaining what bothers me very well. I don't mind when people specify breed, exactly...I'm pretty sure I'm guilty of doing the same at times.

A better example, maybe:

"I just got my pit last week, he's 9 weeks old. What should I feed him?"

You mean they say it as if they are a whole different species? That grinds my gears as well. The latest one is "gamebred" pit. I guess they have to use that to differentiate it from the rednose variety or the bluenose variety... I really couldn't care less. I typically say dog with people I don't know really really well. For those I know better, I will specify breed if its the best way to identify them, otherwise I will use name or colour or other distinguishing features.

YES! That hits it right on the head. It reads like they are speaking of a completely different species, not about a dog

I always refer to my dogs by name... and usually expect for everyone to know them (all 6) by name.. like, if I say "Titus did this...", you guys are supposed to know Titus is the Lab/Husky mix with the blue eye.

I get you I think. It's like the rules for housetraing a 'pit' are completely different from those of training any other breed.

I specify my dogs 'breed' due to being a multi-dog/multi-breed household. It doesnt bother me,for 'health' or training reasons,as differant breeds can have different 'purposes' and that helps to figurure out how to best deal with the issues.

I think I usually refer to my Veronica as "The Divine Mz. V."...because clearly she is in a class by herself.

I'm probably guilty without realizing it because even I can't tell which of my two different breed dogs I am talking about sometimes. And I definitely mention breed when we have the ever prevalent DA discussions.

I refer to my dogs by their names first, "dog" second, and then breed last if people are curious. But there are times I will mention breed in some discussions because it may be that I'm curious about a breed-related question/issue.

When Winter was small (lol) I was asked by a guy if she was a "baby pit" as if I had a tiger cub on the end of my leash. Yeah, I understand exactly what you're saying....Actually I was thinking the same as you but I wasn't gonna say anything lol.

Like how do I teach my pit to sit? UMMM same way you would any other breed?

Not entirely true. Pits, being smart and stubborn, can take more time, patience and creativity to train

I specify the breed when asking for advice because I have more than one dog and I know some breeds are prone to certain health issues and personality traits. When I am hoping for some advice I want the breed taken into consideration. If someone asks me what to feed a Chihuahua I would just say "Kibble!". If someone asks me what to feed an APBT, I am going to ask about any allergies and ask if the dog is an athlete or a regular pet. Different breeds do have different requirements.
