I usually get positive reactions with my dog. I once went through the drive through at Wendy's with my pitbull Boss, and the guy at the window gave him a plateful of hamburger patties, which was greatly appreciated by my hog of a pitbull. The only trouble was when Boss tried to actually climb through the window of my car into the window of the drive through to get more hamburgers
The wendy's staff fed my dog a nugget the other day.

Wendy's should start promoting their dog-friendly drive-through service.

Sometimes I will but the window behind me down a shade at Tim's and the people (before hearing pitbull) will melt and give her a timbit. She loves drive-thrus now.

I work at a Tim Horton's at the moment (bleh), and I always spoil the pitties. My boyfriend delivers pizzas, and every time he delivers to a pit house, the people are always surprised that he's not scared of them. He always has a treat for them and time to make friends.

I don't lie about what Lucy is. Although people sometimes don't believe me. They think because she's black, friendly, and has a permanent case of wiggle butt, she must be mixed with lab.

I will tell people Sherman is a Amstaff and then they say oh Pit Bull. I say no Amstaff why must they always contradict me.

Bigkahunabo I think they assume you're saying he's an Amstaff to avoid saying he's an apbt. I actually had one lady say "you know she's nothing but a pit bul, right?". Some people are just ignorant.

When Luna was 9 weeks old I had her in my arms at the local feed store. The lady behind me in line asked me if she was a great dane (due to her color I assume) and when I told her that she was an Amstaff she literally took 3 giant steps back. DH and I just laughed, come on she weighs 11 lbs!!!

Okay I am just learning about these breeds but I have always thought of an Amstaff as

And a pit bull as

I think they look similar, but I think of one as stalkier and a bit larger and I always thought their head shape was a little different...Am I just not in the know. I do not have much APBT experience but I have seen Amstaff's in the AKC rings and while I know they are very closely related I always considered them distinct breeds.

Very interesting Ali. Had I guessed I would have said the first pic was apbt and the second Amstaff. Perhaps it's the color of the second photo, I see blue and think of my Luna. That pic actually looks A LOT like Luna's sister Storm!

Cross is actually an AST, although he certainly wouldn't win any conformation titles. When I tell most people he's an AST they usually look puzzled for a minute & then go on about how sweet he is. There's the rare occasion folks will reply, "Isn't that the same thing as a pitbull?"

When I take him to Pet Supplies Plus there's usually one or two people actually fleeing the aisles clutching their toy breeds to their chest while he walks beside me on a loose lead completely disinterested in anything other than the treat-lined shelves. There was even a woman who complained that I had brought a "vicious pit bull" into the store & was frightening her chihuahua; all while he was sitting languidly by my side & her yappy little mutt was going beserk in her arms trying to eat Cross' face! Some people...

Well Castrensis, you can tell by your avatar pic that Cross is surely a vicious monster who is to be feared!

a lot of people know right off the bat what Peanut is but those who do not know and ask we tell them what he is. I am not ashamed one bit. If the conversation stops after they find out the breed it is there loss i don't care. if they find out and still want to talk about them i am more than happy to educate them. when they ask if its okay to pet him or if he would bite them they are pleased to find out he LOVES people and they made his day by coming over to him and giving him attention. Some days you can tell you made 1 person's opinion better of the breed that might not have known they would ever like "pitbulls".

I love that. Last time I went to Petco, there was an old lady there with her fat chihuahua. It went berserk every time I passed the aisle they were in, the second time I passed it pooped on the floor, so the woman put it in the cart. All Lucy wanted to do was see what the commotion was about.

I tell it like it is, I say he is an american pitbull terrier. Often times, they ask further questions such as his age etc. When I say almost 21 months, they ask me if he is a mix LOL. Sigh, my friend's 130 lb. presa canario has been called a pitbull while mine a mix when we walk them side by side. The presa is also a cur since he will raise its hackles and snarl while my apbt would just move forward silently with the occassional excited yelp for combat. Sadly, they mistake the presa's attitude as being the attitude of the pitbull. The public is so informed nowadays.

I never lie about my dog. If someone walks away they are ignorant and not open minded and those people don't want to be educated so I don't waste my time with them.
I know my dog is a great girl and my family loves her so that is all that really matters to me. If someone shut off a convo because a dog is a diffrent breed then F em! hahaha!!!!!!!!
maybe we should start doing that to people who own those "labra-doodles" and such

Peanut is 25 months old on the 16th he is 49 lbs 20" at the withers he is often mistaken for a puppy or a mix for being so small and people friendly. its so depressing what the general public thinks these dogs should be like and look like.

I always say Trina is a Pit Bull mix but when I was asking permission to our landlord about getting a puppy at the shelter the receptionist asked what kind of dog it was and I said "they think she's either a pit mix or a lab mix" and she said "ok so you want to get a lab mix puppy?". Lol. And then she called back and said I had permission to get my "lab mix puppy" so I think maybe she was trying to tell me something lol

Whenever I see blue I think of my guy too even though he is obviously a totally different breed, lol. I think we can both agree however that a blue coat is a BEAUTIFUL coat!!!

We have shown for AKC conformation and bred danes in the past, which admittedly do not show in the terrier group with the AmStaffs but I always liked them and would watch them and thought they were a bit taller and bulkier than an APBT, but I learn something new every day.

It is sad people feel they need to lie about the breed of their dog. People should be able to be proud of their breed of choice! Hell I came to this site as someone who had their dog attacked by an APBT, but I did not hate them after that and now I am becoming a fan. Will I go out and get one? No because it is probably not a good idea for me with the dogs I have and I am very involved with those breeds. Will I invite unknown APBTs over play dates with my dogs? Probably not...But will I be excited to pet one when I am on my own or get to know the breed more? FOR SURE!!!

You know every time we have Sasha with us when we go to Mcdonalds she gets a cookie. They keep cookies at the first window for dogs. And its usually the women and teen girls but they always make a big fuss over her. And when they ask what she is, I tell them she is a Terrier mix. And most of them are like "she is so precious" or "I'd love to have one just like her" or "I could just take her home with me". All good positive comments. Now maybe it helps that she is a mutt. But I've gone through the same drive through with my moms poodles, my grandma's chihuahua and no treats are given. But then again they are so yappy its not even funny. You can go back the next day with Sasha and treats are given. But she is quiet and patient. Its bad and I shouldn't do it but she usually gets some of my biscuit or breakfast burrito. She's a good dog.

But we have been out and about on walks and we tell them Terrier mix and they run the other way, or people will walk on the opposite side of the street. Its that terrier grin that scares them I think. One person recently commented once on our "Pit Bull" puppy, how she will grow up to be a killer, and I'm like "Dude she is two years old she is grown up.
There is not a mean or aggressive bone in her body." I acknowlege she could have pit bull in her and thats fine, we think though more likely SBT. I believe the head of our local shelter said 98% of the dogs in our local shelters are mixed with Pit bull. But most of the people that take time to stop and meet her are impressed by her. She is so obedient. And if they ask if she is mixed with pit bull, I say "we don't know, I won't say she is but I won't say she isn't. She is just a good old mutt"

I asked the very same question. To lie? Or not to lie? Well, my pup is a mix. So when they ask what kind of dog she is i say "A dog." "Well, what kind?" "The furry kind that barks." Then they give up and keep going on about how pretty she is, how amazing her eyes are, yada yada yada. Unless it's a family member, or someone I know, who doesn't believe all the media hype. A dog groomer friend of mine for instance. I pick and choose. If its some joe blow walking down the street, she's just a dog. If its a friend or educated person, then she's a pitbull X catahoula cur. Then i have to explain what a catahoula is Not lying, or being ashamed and everyone goes home happy.
