Default another dog.. (the bad news)
I just got back from taking tinkerbell and spinner to an open field up the road.. (hubby and kids were with me).. my dogs were leashed (as its the law).. we were practicing commands (sit, stay, down-stay, exc) I guess some kids thought it would be nice to bring their golden retriever out as well.. No problem by me except the kids were 4-5years old and no parents around.. I did not say anything.. but I did however tell the hubby its time to go before something happens.. (the kids could not hold on to the other dogs leash for nothing).. well as I bend down to treat tinkerbell and say *lets go home*.. their dog got away from them and charged at tinkerbell.. My daughter was standing right by us and got knocked down.. tinkerbell took a stance and I knew we had to leave right then and there so I got in between tink and the other dog (I know, not smart) but I used my knee to nudge the other dog back and grab my daughter and started walking.. by this time the mother stepped outside and as I was walking, I told her *might want to make sure the kids can handle the dog before you let them bring him out unsupervised*.. she of course, started apologizing like crazy.. but then goes back inside and left the kids and dog outside again.. wtf? So we keep walking home and the kids decide there is nothing there to do now and go in... I know they are just kids, but their momma should know better - the dog was like a horse to them kids..

Tisk Tisk Tisk.

I let my ten year old brother walk Bransen sometimes, but my brother is almost my height, heavier than me, and he only gets to do so when I am RIGHT THERE to grab B in case he sees a squirrel or a crow. Haha

I'm sorry about your neighbours ignorance, but seriously, how could you do that without worrying?

I'd let a 10 year old walk spinner (maybe not tink, but spinner).. lol

Had I not got between the 2, tink would have defended us and then we'd be the next in the local paper.. and I garantee they would not put that the other dog came after us.. and the *pitbull* was just defending us.. instead it would read something of the like *pitbull attacks toddlers dog*..

and my kids love tink more than anything - I know without a doubt, both would have tried their best to break it up and could have gotten hurt..

That is so sad. Poor kids. They can really get hurt.

Awwe, glad to hear your daughter is ok, though!
Sad to see parents being so irresponsible... "I'm sorry" doesn't mean jack unless you do something to remedy the situation... How hard is it just to hang out outside with your kids and the dog?!

The problem with bulldogs is even if a strange dog is just coming up to check them out they can react like, well a bulldog. Most breeds don't automatically go into fight mode at the sight of other dogs. So even if it's not technically your fault, most likely the golden was running over to say what's up to your dogs in non aggressive manner. If he's attacked then it's still on us. That's just how it is. The tricky part of this is conditioning your bulldog to ignore other dogs except when the other dog is obviously aggressive. At that point it's fair game as far as I'm concerned.

The mother is obviously not the brightest letting her 5 year olds try to "control" a dog the size of a retriever.

Some people should not be dog owners OR parents.

Not only do irresponsible owners drive me nuts... but parents who don't supervise their kids outside drive me nuts as well. How many small children has been abducted while they were outside alone, and the parents are no where in sight?

People drive me nuts.

I totally agree. I have a 6 year old, and she's not even allowed on the patio without me. Some people are just irresponsible. \

Glad your daughter and dog are ok

It's amazing how many irresponsible pet owners and parents for that matter, can literally not give a shit with no fear of repercussion for it.

When coming upon a situation like this I would advise calling the Sheriff's Dept or PD ASAP. What with all the child snatchings & child murders going on nowadays NO child - esp. a young child - should be left outside without direct supervision. I'm sure we've all heard the stories of children who were snatched & the mother laments "but I only turned my back for a minute!" If children are outside mom (or dad, or whomever) should be right there watching them. Maybe a stern talking to by the local authorities would get these ne'er-do-well parents on their toes instead of putting their kids (as well as yours in this case) in harm's way.

Blessings ...

I did not report them this time, but the same kids and parents have been reported in the past.. the last time on my part was when they were riding a 4-wheeler in the streets - and parents no-where to be found. they had ran it infront of cars and almost got hit twice while I was standing watch. the police made the parents take the 4-wheeler and put it up. I am sure they warned them too. but ive seen the police there a few times.. I am assuming over the kids.. but could be over anything for all I know. the police and child protective services here are a joke.. I am not saying all of them are, but most are. they have to build up a case file a mile long before they do anything..
