Default Are people really that thick???
I was walking my dog in the park this evening, mind you it is not a dog park but there are lot of people with dogs around. As I enter an enclosed baseball field to let Uma off the leash in the field we'd been approached by a loose dog (chow mix) that was charging at me and my dog, I noticed the group of people casually walking calling their dog off that didn't react at all, she was all in the fight mode, jumping on me trying to push me away while I was trying to get in the field and close the door behind. At that point I had enough, I took my breakstick out and was shoveling into the dogs mouth yelling to the stupid owners to contain their dog and put it on the leash.
What these idiots did just amazed me, they started yelling back screaming to drop my knife and leave their dog alone and keep my "killer pitbull" away from the park. Meanwhile the dog would not back down, so I gave it a kick on the ribs - really feel bad about it - I really wanted to punch the owners in their mouths. Now what? Another place I cannot safely walk my dog? well all I can say, thank you ColbyDogs for the breakstick, fortunately I didn't use for the intended purpose, but it served as a distraction to fend off another dog

Ugh... and people wonder why I don't "make more friends"!
I don't hate everyone, just stupid people. Unfortunately, that's the majority of the population now!

You did exactly RIGHT! At that point...screw the owners...make sure you and your dog are safe. There was another thread a few months ago and I pointed out the "other use" of a good breakstick...good job...

Uma got a little bruise/scratch underneath her eye as a result, arghh. There was a few words exchanged, but the wife or whoever of that stupid owner was screaming bloody murder and that I had a knife and she pulled out a cell phone I guess to call the cops, I tried telling them that it was a tool they should invest into along with a good leash and training classes for their dog and themselves, well with a few profanities thrown along the lines.

What a blessing you had that break stick! You did much better in that situation than I would have - my reaction would have been to shoot the dog & THAT would have stirred up a whole 'nother hornet's nest!

Maybe you should carry pepper spray - that dog could have really hurt you! Thankfully you & Uma are none the worse for wear. Stupid people, I swear.

Blessings ...

I've kicked an off leash dog for trying to attack one of my dogs before. After yelling to the owners (who were placidly walking away) to get their dog. They freaked and I called the cops on them as they said they'd follow me home and kill my dog. In front of their 7 or 8 year old. Great role models.

The cops gave them a ticket for off leash walking. Nice to know the authorities and have them know you and your friendly dogs. Some people are not worth the air they breathe. I did feel bad for the dog but the best thing you can say to the police is I was in fear for my life.

I'll be ordering a break stick this week having only learned about them here.

I'm sorry but if its me protecting me and my dog from an unleashed dog.. the break stick would be the least of their concerns..

It's always our crazy pit bulls fault. I get the question, what kind of dog do you have? And they say Oh you have a pit bull. When they don't even know my dog, she is the best dog we have ever owned, very smart, loves to play, and loves to please. People only see the bad in the media and attatch the stigma to every dog.
There is nothing like a pit bull grin to make a bad day turn into a good one!

ur story reminded me of what happened to me where i use to live in illinois...my nephew which is 12 was walking whon zhe(he was totally trained and safer for him to walk) i was walking diablo(puppy still being trained), anyway we were walking the dogs around the block and we got about 3 houses from my house and these idiots had a 4 foot hogh fence and 2 pit bulls running loose. I take my dogs away from that side of the street to avoid problems... Whon Zhe which is less DA just watches, Diablo though only liked dogs he grew up with seen them tried to go after held him back, this woman has nerve enough to yell at me, "stupid bitch i have pit bulls keep ur mutts away!" then she lets the dogs go over the fence onecame after me i kicked the shit out of it while keeping D away from it. Whon zhe was figiting but he wouldnt budge until i gave him the command to get out of the sit position with the clicker. Get this she threatened to kill me and my dogs then called the cops on me.

Yes people are really that thick and ignorant

Good for you!!! Funny how its YOUR dog that was the problem simply because of its breed when obviously it was THEIR dog that was the problem. This is EXACTLY why I warn people against Dog Parks.. I realize this was NOT a dog park.. But its this sorta thing that happens all the time there and its always the ignorant aholes who automatically blame the bully.

Just grrr... Glad it all worked out ok and so sorry you had to even deal with it.

not to offend you or anything but you shoulnt in any circumstance be bringing your dog to run around off the leash where you know there are other dogs around when you have an apbt. this dogs were bred to fight for hundreds of years so why set your dog up for disaster. no matter how good and nice you think your dogs is you shouldnt be bringing him/her around other dogs that are loose like that. its a different story if the other dogs are your dogs or friends dogs in your own backyard but not in a public place like that. the bully breed will be blamed no matter whose fault it is .i know it wasnt you or your dogs fault this time and im sorry your dog got bit and those other people are a-holes for sure. but please do not bring your bully breed dog out like this anymore its very irrisponsible

btw im from ny to east rockaway we all know that people in this state are a-holes not like any other state in the usa lol

Hi, I am not sure what you mean by irresponsible - I brought my dog to a park not a dog park, I do not expect dogs off leash on non-enclose spaces. My dog was on the leash, what's next? I cannot walk my dog on the sidewalk?
The incident happened in the Prospect Park in Brooklyn, there is an off leash rule in the park that applies only from 9PM till the park closure, I walk my dog in the park every day around 6-7 PM and never attend off leash sessions.
We have a few dog friends, and we take our dogs to a secluded soccer field once in a while to get the dog play under a strict supervision.
