Default Petition to regulate pit bull breeding combat dog fighting
I stumbled upon this while browsing flickr. Really, honestly? One of the more ignorant petitions I've seen in a while.

Petition:

Regulate the breeding of pit bulls to combat dog fighting, dog bites | Change.org

PIT BULLS NEED TO BE REGULATED AND LICENSED. Dog fighters would care less about anti-dog fighting laws: Dog fighting rings oftentimes trade cocaine and illegal weapons, which are also illegal by the heaviest standards of criminal justice. By curtailing or heavily regulating the BREEDING of pit bulls, is the most effective means to combat dog fighting, for your are regulating their cash crop: The production of pit bulls, currently legal to breed as many as they like, and they do. Though other dogs can be used in dog fighting, only pit bulls fight to the death, therefore are the dog of choice among dog fighters.

If a person wishes to breed pit bulls, they should be required to own a government issued license, renewed yearly, for registration and tracking purposes. Unauthorized breeding should be heavily fined and/or require jail time. Pit bulls need to be seen as they really are: A cash crop for thugs, gangs, and organized criminals. Otherwise, pit bulls should be sterilized, which in itself prevents dog bites.

Pit bulls are hard to conceal and people will tell on others who breed them--pit bull breeders will get caught simply by individuals who report animal nuisances or neighbors who simply tell. Many people feel very uneasy about a pit bull next to their property, especially if there are many of them, and, in fact, many insurance companies will NOT cover your home if you own a pit bull (based on their statistics that pit bulls are dangerous dogs via insurance claims of dog bites). My response:
A dog that will bite, will bite whether or not it is intact, regardless of breed. Pit bulls are demonized by the media, but are not "cash crops." The majority of pit bulls are owned by compassionate, responsible, law-abiding citizens. For a pit bull to exhibit human aggression is outside of the breed's temperament. ANY dog, regardless of breed, that exhibits human aggression needs to be euthanized.

Do you honestly think that those people that are committing a felony offense by dog-fighting are going to bother getting their dogs licensed?

Before you try to take away the rights of the majority because of the faults of a few, why don't you point your attentions toward puppy mills, or how about the rapists and sex offenders that are serving minimal time?

After looking through the person's photostream... I feel like I've wasted my breath. What a moron.

yep, you wasted your breath.. but hell, it made you feel better...
these are the same type people and they use the same type logic as gun control freaks who are always wanting to pass restrictive gun laws, they also do not get the fact that the bad guys will pay no attention to the laws and they are only punishing folks who are law abiding citizens...
restrictive laws, make criminals out of good folks, they do not get rid of criminals...

That needs to go on a billboard in ever major metropolis in the country, as well as a slew of bumper stickers!

I get this immediate sense of emotional upheaval from the anger/frustration I feel when people propose things like this. Only law-abiding citizens comply, and those aren't the ones with the problems. We have too many damn busy-bodies with their noses stuck in other peoples' business in the government these days.

Catch-22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
