Meet 'Giant George' the 7ft-long blue great dane who could be the world's tallest dog

Standing at nearly 43 inches tall from paw to shoulder and weighing a staggering 245lbs could this be the world's new tallest dog?
Pictured here in the parks of Tuscon, Arizona, George, a four-year-old blue great dane, looks more like a miniature horse than a dog.

The gentle giant, who measures 7ft 3ins from nose to tail, could be a prime contender to take the title from the former record holder, Gibson, a harlequin Great Dane who passed away from cancer last August.
Now George's owners, David and Christine Nasser, are awaiting confirmation from Guinness World Records to see if he has achieved the lofty heights.
'He's 42.625 inches at the shoulder,' said David. 'He's very very unique.'
According to David, George consumes 110lbs of food every month, and sleeps alone in his own Queen Size Bed.
David and Christine raised George from when he was 7 weeks old, but never expected him to grow so big.

The couple eventually had to move their aptly named dog out of their king sized bed, when he grew too large for the three of them to share the same sheets.
Dr. William Wallace of the Buena Pet Clinic in Tucson, who witnessed the documentation necessary for the Guinness record, said: 'In my 45 years of experience working with giant breed dogs, without question, George is the tallest dog I have ever seen.'
David is currently rushing to get that necessary documentation into Guinness as other dog owners are coming forth claiming the record.
As they wait for the results to come through, George is busy occupying himself with his new found stardom and even has a Facebook fan page and Twitter accounts for his adorning fans.
It appears as though the sky's the limit for this mammoth hound.

110lbs of food a MONTH? Beside's being totally irrelevant to his height I just don't see how that's possible. I have two Danes here who combined, weigh as much as he does...and I sure as hell don't go through 110lbs of food a month. He is overweight and they are setting him up for a world of hip and joint pain as he ages. Sigh...will never understand the desire for people to have the biggest of everything.

I do hope he's neutered. The breed certainly doesn't need anymore record chasing people cashing in on oversized, short lived, horrid examples of the breed.

Why does 110# of food for a 245# dog seem so exaggerated to some? I go thru ~34# a month or a bit more with a 73.5 pound Diesel. A little less than 1/2 (45% or so) of a dogs adult weight in food for a large breed like that is not uncommon.

The amount of food he eats doesn't shock me, I'm like Diesel, I would think a dog of that size would eat a ton of food. The first thought that went through my mind was, I bet he dies young. I really wanted a Great Dane (in my BM days... before Mollie), but then I heard that they have a short life span, and that to me was depressing.

Wow! I'm glad Jassmine isn't that big! She is 34" tall and 115lbs, plenty big enough for me!

As for the food, that does sound like a lot. I had a 200lb English Mastiff and he ate 6 cups a day and went thru about 50lbs of food a month. Usually the bigger the dog the less they eat b/c they aren't as active and their metabolism is slower. Casper my Dogo is around 120lbs and only eats 2 cups a day and a 35lb bag last 2 months!

Well the food intake might be affected by the Danes "growth rate". If he has a thyroid problem and is still adding weight...who knows.

I don't doubt for one minute that he's actually fed that much...I just find it terribly unnecassary. He's overweight and unless he is being fed a low quality kibble there is no reason for him to be eating that much a month. Between my three dogs (135lbs, 115lbs, and 72lbs) I typically go through two 40lb bags a month when i'm feeding kibble. Even when they were sill growing and eating twice as much as they do now it wasn't anywhere near that much.

and yes there may very well be more to the story...but I see all to often people keeping their giant breeds fat just for the "wow" factor of being able to say they have a 200 plus pound dog.
