Default Reinforcing the fence "just in case"
Along 2 sides of our yard we have a 6' privacy fence, on the back side is a 4' chain link.
All has been fine for the year we've been here as the house behind us has been empty. Well....it sold.
We met the new neighbors today and while they seem nice and don't have a problem with putbulls, they do have a dog ("Boxer/bloodhound that doesn't know it's a dog").

So, just to be on the safe side, we're going to put a hot wire up about 6' from the chain link.

Sounds like a good idea. I probably wouldn't let my dog go outside unattended either. You don't want the dogs to start "fence fighting".

A 4 foot fence isn't going to stop squat if your dog wants to get over it for some reason and another dog could well be the reason. If it were me I would keep the dog on a lead when out or raise the height of the fence.

That's the reason for the hot wire. We figured that would be quick and easy until we could get a new fence put up. That, and we had no idea when the people were moving in.

We've been planning on putting up a privacy fence when that house sold since we moved here last year. We just weren't planning on putting it up in rainy January.
As it turns out, we found all the material we needed on craiglist for an excellent price, and the weather was mostly nice this weekend, so we were able to put up the privacy fence.

In process:

The short fence posts in front are for my future veggie garden.

The finished fence:

On the straight tops, I was holding the slats while DH ran the drill, on the uneven tops, DH was holding the slats while I ran the drill..LOL

Your new fence looks great and i like the idea of having the chain link behind it as well. My male SBTs has gone right through our picket fence that is just like yours and I bet if there was chain link behind it that would have stopped him. I do want to add that my Boxer can climb right over our fence like yours, she gets a running start and jumps kinda half way up it and then runs up the rest. My female SBT used gets her toes and claws in the cracks to climb over, but after the male busted several slats we took it all down and put them back up closer together and we hope that since they had already shrunk it won't develop more space between them. I just wanted to let you know the problems we had so you can keep them in mind and hopefully keep and incident from happening.

My one Foster climbs my privacy fence... :/ He has to be tethered when outside and when he has free roam in my house I have to keep the doggy door closed :/

Nice lookin' fence, I still need about 14 sections to finish mine. Mine will also have a chain link fence on the outside too. I was fortunate to get the power, cable, and phone boxes in my back yard, so when I finish my Privacy Fence I'm going to have kind of like a hallway that way the utility workers or whoever won't need access in my fenced in yard.

The Privacy fence part, I also added chicken wire to the bottom and have it buried to prevent potential diggers from escaping.

It may sound cruel but my father-in-law did it with his 2 pits. He had one get out of his 6 foot privacy fence and stayed missing for a few days. So he went to Tractor supply and ran low voltage wire around the base. No more escapes, he wont even jump on the fence anymore to harass cats that walk across the top.
