Default Dog Jessie Gives Birth To 16 Puppies
Westside Woman Went To Bed After 11 Puppies Delivered, Woke Up To 5 More

POSTED: Thursday, January 7, 2010
UPDATED: 10:23 pm EST January 7, 2010
Deena Roth said her dog Jessie gave birth to 16 puppies.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Deena Roth has a good reason to be shocked after what she woke up to Thursday morning.

Her dog Jessie went into labor on Wednesday morning, and at first she saw just four puppies."I thought four was good enough," said Roth, who lives on the Westside.By the time Roth went to bed, Jessie had delivered seven more, making a litter of 11.

But Thursday morning, Roth woke up to a surprise."I woke up to five more, and I said, 'Oh God,'" Roth said.Jessie had given birth to 16 puppies. It's tough to count all of the newborns as they cuddle up with their mom.

Roth said she took Jessie in as a stray and never thought that she would end up 17 dogs."What am I going to do with these puppies?" Roth asked.

She said she'll take care of the puppies until they're old enough to leave their mother. Roth said she'll then find homes for all of them."I want the puppies to be raised right," Roth said. "Loved. Just loved."

I guess if she wasn't spayed she shouldn't have been too surprised that she had puppies, whether it be 4, 11, or 17....

And hello ? What am I going to do with these puppies ? I guess she should've thought about that before she let her dog in heat get knocked up. Doesn't sound to me like she's very intelligent or very observant

My understanding was she took in the dog already pregnant in b/c it was as stray. Not that she let her get pregnant and she wasn't expecting her to have that many pups. Heck I wouldn't have expected that many! Seems like more and more dogs are having larger litter of pups!

::::::::::facepalms:::::::::::

the dog wasn't done, she just went to bed. oh geez. she's lucky that dog didn't die in labor.
hm. if she didn't have homes lined up beforehand, she should DEF have done a spay/abort.

ugh!! i have no words, except this why people should spay & neuter their pets and/or if they take in pregnant strays to spay/abort.

The reporting wasn't thorough or specific. I didn't get that from reading the story.
If that's so, it wasn't worded correctly.

Even if she took the dog in as a pregnant stray, unless she was on the verge of popping, she could have and SHOULD have done a spay/abort. If you're not willing to be a responsible rescuer, you shouldn't be rescuing.

Oh wow. I hope she can find forever homes for them all but it's unlikely. Yeah and who the hell really goes to sleep when a dog is in labor?!
