Where to start?? ACK!! I belong to a few other forums, and I seldom post but like to read the posts. So , I go to this forum and somebody is talking about a college tv show they just did that was all about this great APBT breed. Cool right?
Well, I continue to read and come across this one post that says " Oh, I especially like how you STRESSED how this breed actually does NOT want to fight and that is SUCH a common misconception blah blah" Excuse me but WTF?? ![]() ![]() ![]() Someone please tell me how someone that proclaims to love this breed can say anything like that? Won't that one sentence put these dogs into the very uncapable hands that we all fear? Of course they are not bloodthirsty drooling monsters but DAMN! Yes, there are most assuredly training methods to use, etc etc, but as a rule they tend to be most certainly DA and some WAY more than others, so what do I do? I hate to be nasty but I soooo want to right now. Please advise! Could I be over reacting? |

MANY people are just clueless about this breed. Especially some of the ones hwo own them. Being here Ive found that some people who own them just shouldnt because they have NO IDEA about the breed.
I wouldnt be too upset, but, I would try to educate them.. seems they are pretty clueless about their breed of choice. |

I agree with Alma, I would try to educate them. Also, not only are apbt's commonly DA, but many other breeds are also commonly DA. Odds are that even the sweetest dog is going to eventually meet another dog it doesn't like, irregardless of breed. I think a lot of people forget that dogs will be dogs will be dogs and need to be treated as such.

Maybe you can find some helpful links to add to your reply, so that you have some more backup on where you're coming from and why this is a reputable fact about the breed (and many others). It will be easy for them to shoot you down if it's just you, but if you load your reply with credible sources it will be harder to ignore.

Simple dog psychology says if they are out of their territory they are not brave at all. They are normally easily run off by a much smaller dog. Couple this to the fact typical dog behaviour is to present a lot of threat displays and generally try to avoid confrontation. Suddenly it starts to make sense. Then factor in that larger dogs just can't match the speed and agility of a small dog and this explains why in 15 years of chihuahuas I didn't come across one big dog that ever backed some of them down. Of course the risks were huge and all altercations were avoided if possible.
