Ok.. I'm starting to think the intelligence of fish is WAY under rated.

I have to stick my nose in here.
Do you feed her (looks like a girly from the fat figure!) other than the algae/left overs around the tank? A lot of pet shops will tell you thy only need what is left over, but they benefit from regular feedings... I feel horrible for all the poor pleco's who should be getting meals that are left to starve for algae. Too funny... You'd be surprised what personalities fish have... My koi girl is such a little diva, she will only let me touch her if there is some mango in it for her, but Caddy my Fancy goldfish is al for bak rubs all the time. Porky, my shubunkin with no hind end due to a cichlid attack, is a nut. He is a ball of fire. And they recognize people. My old angels knew who I was, they got downright ditzy when I walked in the room, didn't react to family. Ah, in case you weren't aware, that's a CAE, Chinese Algae eater. Got any algae wafers? mine loved them.. Homemade veggie jello snacks were a big hit too. |

Yeah thats a Chinese algae eater, sometimes called "Golden Algae Eaters" Ive seen in a few petstores. I think there is another "off" name for them too? But thats what ya got.
They tend to be skittish, but also can be aggressive in fish tanks and pick on other fish. I just have a single lonely cichlid that everyone thinks is a gold fish! LOL but I did have a tank full of cichlids but this guy was a big bully and does best alone so I just gave away the other fish. This one is my first cichlid child so, and he is FULL of personality. Its almost as if he knows your talking about him cause he'll show off. If one of the dogs is up at the tank he will tease them. He follows people around the room in his tank...just really neat. |

Oh boy, fish buzz is coming back. I had seven full tanks once and over sixty bettas, when I bred them. Something wiped out all of my bettas one day, I'm guessing someone intentionally dumped floor cleaner in their tanks. Really a shame, I had some gorgeous platinum halfmoons, double tailed yellows, dragon coloration bettas, and a batch of fry from my favorite pair, most of whom had cambodian coloring. Boy I cried all day. There wasn't a damn thing for me to do, I had to sit back and try to keep them half way comfortable in clean, shallow water. Not to mention the loss of cash, many were imports.
I then moved onto breeding Cherry, Bamboo, ghost, yellow and snowball shrimp. My city for same freaking reason added Ammonia to the water, I didn't know and did a water change on my tanks, everyone died. I left indoor fishkeeping. I have two pet tanks, one is a crappy pet store betta, the other some guppies and apple snails with African Clawed frogs. |
