Ummmm...obviously xgarrettxvx has some work to do in terms of securing the yard...but didn't we just establish yesterday that...well...shit happens?

My point was that even if you take all the precautions you can - secure yard, keeping an eye on your dogs, etc. - yes, shit can still happen.

But this guy didn't even take any precautions, didn't even TRY to prevent this from happening.

THAT is my point.

I agree with your point.

Shit does and will happen but the fact remains he knew his brother's neighborhood has an issue with loose dogs, particularly the Rottie and I believe he said a Lab. No precautions were taken and he allowed his dogs loose out side as well whether they were in his yard or not is irrelevent, IMO, since they knew of the other dogs being loose all the time.

a fence should be up yes, but not everyone can afford a fence for so much land. even if the dogs were tied up or on leash, if the dogs attacked it would have just made it harder for mr.p to protect himself, and the situation i think would not be very different at all. but i agree, time for something to die, i would have the dogs killed if they came on my yard.

I agree with this, and who ever will say "its just a matter of time," whatever. I had an Amstaff who was the most DA dog I have ever met besides Taz. She never once got into a fight, killed anything, attacked anything, or got out of the gate. I had her for 12 years, not ONE incident, same with her mother. Taz I have had for four years, same thing, and I plan to keep it that way. Accidents do happen, but most of the time, the owner does something wrong. If you can prove me wrong, I'd like the hear an incident when there was a dog fight or your dog killed something when there was absolutely NOTHING you could do, good luck.

xgarrettxvx...you don't have to prove anything to any of us whether it was 100% your fault...50% your fault...a Shit Happens type of event...or whatever. All you might think of doing is decide whether you are going to stop it from happening again....take whatever measures you think will avert this from occurring again and go from there...

id have to say if your dog was in your yard, it aint your fault. i dont give a crap how many times its happened before, or will again, YOUR dog isnt the one wandering the countryside. next time you go there to babysit, bring a 12 gauge... problem solved.

Good post. Just learn from it and move forward.... no amount of looking back will change what happened yesterday. Oh, and I fixed the title of your thread for you.

That's basically what I insinuated (I think)...He knew of a problem with neighbor dogs but nothing has been done to fix the problem...the 12 gauge is a viable Solution to the problem and cheaper than putting up a fence.

i have to agree with this one. those dogs came looking for trouble well they got it. shit happens in a blink of an eye. look at it the other way around what if you were still out side with your dogs would it of still happened probably yea. what if there was more than 2 dogs

Good idea!! And fairly inexpensive.
We used one to keep our neighbors dog out of our horse pasture. He came over one day and got tangled in the wire... last time he ever came over. Didn't hurt him, just scared him.

Thanks hucklebutt, woody and youknow2 for kinda seeing my side more than others. Thanks to everyone else for your opinions and suggestions.. Yes i'll help my brother build hiscontainment structure..but i sure as hell can't afford to fence in someone else's 3 acre property. Diesel, i know i don't have to prove anything to any of you, nor do i care too, since we all have different opinions. It was 100% my fault i wasn't watching my dog...and this is probably the most country bumpik mentality i'll ever show..but things are different out here...as woody knows...I don't always agree with it, but my brother does..his dogs keep themselves on his property 24/7 and he doesn't see the point in buying all the material when he has a wife, kids, and dogs to provide for. I can see his point...he's warned dude before..he wasn't there when this happen...God knows what he would've done. The neighbors directly across the road have a fence and the bad neighbor's (as we'll call him) dog still got in there and attacked their dog...they also agree with my brother's way of thinking. not saying that way of thinking is correct, it's just popularly followed out here.

I understand a tiny bit. As our neighbor's boxer kept coming down and attacking Tess (happened two or three times), each time, we'd chase the dog off. It was the third time, Stan went and talked to them. We were lucky enough that the neighbor actually listened and his dog has been kept contained since.

If it continued to happen, I believe that dog would have met it's maker.

I just wouldnt take my dogs over there and let them out period. As far as the fence goes, it might work and it might not. Some dogs run right thru those fences, yip and keep going.
A high powered pellet gun might do the trick.
I am not so sure I would kill the other guys dogs.

I talked to my brother about it today and the gameplan is to build the pens and run electric wire around the bottom. Should be pretty inexpensive and hopefully effective...it won't span the whole property.
