I know pitbulls have a bad reputation. But my family owns a 3/4 pitbull and 1/4 lab female named Q-Bear.Q's mom "Baby" was full pitbull and the most gentle dog you could possibly find. She was a sweetheart and loved everyone."Baby" passed away last year but I know for a fact she would never turn on my sister, her husband,or her three young kids.
If you want my opinion I think humans are the dangerous ones.Just think for a second that maybe that dog may be taught to fight,or may be mishandled.I am a member of the ASPCA. People misjudge pitbulls because one made a mistake or a bad choice. My mom and brother were attacked when they were kids.By Labradors.NOT BY PITBULLS!So quit judging because until you own or have the expirence of meeting a pitbull you don't know anything. ![]() |

The problem is you have all these mixed breed dogs, they are usually a accidental breeding. You have no idea what traits will be carried to the off spring. When you have a high energy, high drive animal mixed with a dog that is known for other traits if the wrong traits get mixed together you have the makings of a very bad dogs on your hands. Spay/neuter your animals.
If I may ask why are you a member of ASPCA? |

We are always running the miles for our breed. Yeah, too much misconceptions. I help out in SPCA. We occasionally have people that think any dog that acts vicious, barks, over excited or aggressive are pit bulls. The mixed mongrels here are always barking, and several of our visitors will ask us "are those pit bulls?"

While I'm a big advocate for spaying/neutering your pets...I do NOT regret the 3 pit bull mixes I own. They all 3 are rescued dogs so I don't know their history or even if they truly have any APBT in them. I love my dogs and they love me. They're damned good dogs.
I just wanted to post in the defense of my 3 mutts since I was getting the feeling of my types being looked down upon. They all 3 are Loyal, extremely friendly, good around other dogs and humans and kids, can be silly and are very Loveable! ![]() The 3 who I'm referring to are the ones on the right side of my signature pic. The 2 white ones are American Bulldogs. |

Take care of your pet, keep them properly contained, feed them, love them, enjoy them, and they will give you more than anyone can imagine. |

Amen to that. As much as I love this forum, there are a few people(even mods...) who are very anti-mutt and it is quite irritating... This IS a "pit bull" forum. People dedicated to preserving the breed and mixed breed dogs are NOT preserving the breed in fact the opposite. I respect people who rescue dogs from shelters and rescues, but if everyone was out to help the breed there wouldn't be any in the shelter or rescue system. I don't know how this post got to be an "anti-mutt" thread from my post, I apologize to the original poster that wasn't my intent. |

I don't feel, Lowlife's post was anti-mutt at all. I think he just stated a fact. Generally, when there is a "pit bull" attack in the news, it seems like more times than not, it looks like a mix bred dog. Does that mean all mix bred dogs are bad? Of course, not, I have owned several mutts in my life, heck, my dogs are most likely mutts, and I love them.

I wasn't accusing anybody of anything...as Lowlife was stating a fact so was I. The OP was talking of how great her mixed dog was and how Irresponsible or even evil humans can be...I reiterated the same for my mixed dogs. Where people don't feel it's right to judge All APBTs by the few bad acts of others I feel the same can be said about the mixed breed dogs.
When I made my post I had no intent with the exception to state my 3 mixed breed dogs are damned good dogs. I should have re-worded my line with "defense of my 3 mutts" I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing anybody of anything. Jelet: with regards to your post... I have gotten the same sense as you concerning mutts. To the OP: I'm sorry for your family's loss. She sounded like a Great Dog! ![]() I'm sorry for the misinterpretations. |

I have been lurking and learning for weeks now and finally feel compelled to post. I have been fostering a pit-mix (spayed) for the past 3 months, and came here to learn. Everyone here has contributed so much to helping me know how to best care for this dog. I don't know or care about "razor" vs "rednose" APBT vs Ambully. I know I have a dog that when everyone looks at her, they see a pit bull. What I needed to know was how to raise her right, keep her safe, keep my others dogs and cats safe. And while she is pure mutt, and has scars from her previous life, she has all the characteristics that you all talk about. She is smart, energetic, needs physical and mental stimulation and gives so much love and loyalty. Every one of you provide an amazing wealth of knowlege and have done so very much to help me. I cannot thank all of you enough for all you have done for me and my foster. Keep up the good works! Thank you |
