Default What people think of pits...
This happened a few years ago, but thought I would just post this to show how badly some people think of Pit Bulls. My friend opened the door to her house to let the house air out, her well-trained Pit Bull sat down in front of the door to catch the breeze while my friend was sitting down on a chair with her baby. The mail truck was coming by and had a package that he had to deliver. My friend paid no heed and continued what she was doing. Suddenly, she heard her Pit Bull, Max, begin to give a complaining noise. She looked at him and his face was all swollen up! She ran to the mail person to ask what the heck he did to her dog. The mail person shrugged his shoulders and said: “I sprayed it with maize.” This dog was sleeping, calmly by the door, no signs of aggression towards the mail carrier and yet he sprayed it with maize!!! She tried to sue them, but was only told in reply: “You have a dangerous breed, he had the right.” Oh it just gets me so mad!

That is bull...."dangerous" breed or not if the dog is showing no obvious signs of aggression what is the point in spraying it?

I do think however your friend should not leave the door open with her dog loose no matter how well-trained it is. Its very irresponsible.

Well, I do put some blame on the friend. Owning a breed like this you have to do your utmost to keep them safe... Letting your dog sit in an open doorway when you are preoccupied, while kids, dogs, people, mail carriers, cats, ect. can pass right by is irresponsible.

However, the mailman was wrong to discharge his mace if the dog wasn't acting aggressively... But being a mail carrier, they have their fair share of mean dogs and don't take any crap from a dog.

that is ridiculous, yea the friend shoulda been out with her dog, just thinking of if another dog or cat went by and the dog killed/hurt it...but that gives no cause to spray a dog while sleeping with maize...man I would have taken the individual to civil court and the mail company to court as well...

well incidents like this contribute to our breeds negative image a couple ways. for one, im sure the guy went out that night and told his buddies how he had to mace a dangerous "pit bull"(thats obviously no good for the image), and for two, it was irresponsible on the owners part to allow the dog to be unsupervised, which continues the stereotype that the owners are bad owners with no concern for others. not good either

I think any "un-leashed" dog in that scenario would have been maced.

Mail carriers are probably the most bitten which is why "mace" is standard when handing out postal uniforms....LOL.....

"Maze" is corn

"Mace" is a brand name of pepper spray better known as OC spray ... If you want the good stuff that police have? Freeze +P (pepper spray with a chemical additive) ...

Oh wow, never thought anyone in the right mind would do that. Once, I was out in the yard with my dog, the mailman walked across and threw in my mail from the fence. My dog, who is no longer with me now, just gave a warning bark. The mailman backed off and I said it's okay, it's just visitor barks. The mailman was alright and even gave a pet to my dog afterwards.

Mailmen are idiots....I couldn't figure out why my mail hadn't come in a week, and it was because they knew I had a dog and my front door was open during the summer. Carry a note and stick it under the windshield of the car or something...or get another job. You can't spend your life assuming you're going to get hurt....that behavior provokes it!

I'm going with Woody D on this one.. the guy probably had a ball telling all his friends how he had to use Mace on a "dangerous dog".... regardless that the dog was probably sleeping and behaving.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about postal folks. My mail box is at the end of my driveway a good half mile from the house.

I did have my dogs with me at a flea market one day and a little girl asked me if those where the kind of dogs that kill little kids. The child's mother was standing there with a rather embarrassed look on her face.

Our dogs don't don't have a snowballs chance in hell with parents telling their children such things.

You can't leave your dog unchained and unsupervised, don't set them up to fail...

That mailman is a turd for doing what he did but it's your friend's fault.

First off, sorry for the mispelling! I am horrible at typing extra letters when I am in a hurry. I am so mad at some mailpeople....UGH! I probably agree that the dog should have been on a leash, she just trusts it a lot. It has been on commercials and I believe it was in a movie too, trying to remember which one.
