Atlas was bought for fifty dollars in the parking lot of Wal Mart. His mother was a pure bred pit, with papers available on hand, but his father was a stray mutt, and the puppies were useless to them. He was the cutest little guy I'd ever seen, and he was affectionate. My brother is the one who bought him, just so he could say he owned a Pit Bull. I was able to walk him three times in his first YEAR of life. I wasn't allowed to, because he wasn't my dog. But my brother never did it on his own. Now, Atlas is two years old, and he stays out in my little brother's backyard on a logging chain attached to a car axel. He's NEVER been walked since he was taken to my little brother's house, and he looks very unhappy.
This was him when he lived with me... ![]() And this is him now... ![]() His eyes are sunken in, and the chain he's on is all he's known for a year. My little brother says he loves him, but never goes out and plays with him. When you go up to the poor guy, he drags you into his domain and slams into you for affection. He doesn't know any better. I want to call the cops, but they have the good ol' boys system, and my brother's step father was a cop. What should I do? |

I'd tell your brother off. It has to be easy cause he is your brother. I scolded my sister off for knowing nothing. And it fixes things. Well, you can start educating your brother and if he doesn't feel he has the time, or he don't accept what you think is right, then buy Atlas off him. Atlas is very good looking btw. But I don't like my dogs to be chained. I put them inside my house.

Since its family.. I took a dog from my sister not to long ago, the dog needs somewhat of special attention (abused dog, not by her) and since she didnt really know how to treat a dog and doesnt do anything with them, no exercise and no play, the dog was getting a little nervous around people.. so I told her I'm taking the dog, dont make a big fuss out of it but you cant have dogs
![]() He is happier now.. not completely over his traumas but fear aggression is better managed, he deals a lot better with strangers now... once he is over the fear of what a new person might do to him he just asks to be petted. So I guess you could do something like that.. but every family is different and families are first before dogs so if it will be a huge deal.. dont even bother... |

IMO I don't see any abuse at all, he looks well-fed. As long as he has proper shelter, food and water, as well as necessary/routine vet visits he should be fine. If you're that upset about it then do something about man up and tell your brother how to be a responsible owner or offer to buy the dog from him....Oh, and I would LOVE to have a chain set up like that for my bully.

If you can't walk him, try buying him. If that doens't work, then I would try to go visit him. I don't agree with chaining either, dogs are pack animals and they want to live it you, not be stuck out on a chain. Or maybe ask to let him loose in the yard and play fetch.
Chaining is fine for containment, but I don't think they should be stuck on one all day long. |

i don't see what the problem is that looks like a pretty standard set up.the dog looks healthy and well fed. as far as the "big ass chains" what would you recommend to tether a bull dog with, fishing line? ![]() ---------- Post added at 10:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:06 PM ---------- i don't see what the problem is that looks like a pretty standard set up.the dog looks healthy and well fed. as far as the "big ass chains" what would you recommend to tether a bull dog with, fishing line? ![]() |
