Default What can they do to my dog
So.. We live in a area where all of us have 6foot walls around our houses.(crime has made us prisoners in our home) but any who. we have a wall as said but our gate to our driveway has palisade fencing a bit higher than the wall. We have a lady walking her dog in the area. But she insist on walking the dog right against the walls and fence. (there is about 3m from the walls with nice grass without walking in the street)

Now normally this will aggravate all the dogs in the area including mine. But my dogs are not allowed by the drive way.
I don’t want anyone poking a finger at them thru the fence or steeling them. And generally keeping them save from humans and keeping human save from any accidents.

But On Monday I was in my driveway getting ready to go out and both dogs were coming with for the ride. What happened was that the lady was walking her dog Tia got the smell and almost pulled the ladies dog thru the fence he was so close that Tia did not need to even try and get her head thru the fence. I stepped in and all ended with no blood spilled.

My question is what will happen to my dog when she pulls the dog in to our yard and the ladies dog gets seriously hurt. Who is in the wrong and vet bills.AND THR LAW I have spoken to her so many time. She has even let her dog out when I was walking my dog. I am worried that they are setting my dogs up.

Who owns the 3m beyond the fence?

You live in SA, so I really wouldn't be to sure about the laws and ordinances there. You might want to consult your local police or animal control and ask them what your options might be.

Do you have an animal control where you are? If you do, call them and file a complaint.

Take pictures of her loose dog to have just in case.

Unfortunately as long as she is not on your said property than it is your fault. If you are out with your dogs and you can't stop your dog it will be your fault. If you let the dogs out and the dogs can pull the small dog onto your property it will be your fault. My suggestion would be don't let the dogs near the fence. If you have to tether them, I would do so. Sorry that's all I can give you but I think that's what is going to have to be.

the 3m belong to the local counsil.and i dont understand WHY she needs to walk on top of the gates and walls. Some times i think she gets some sick joy from making all the dogs agro

A lawn sprinkler going off at the time she walks by with her dogs might deter her from walking too close to your gate....

---------- Post added at 08:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 AM ----------

The Scarecrow motion activated sprinkler instantly releases a short but startling burst of water when it detects animals.

they can now add to this, by saying.and keeps bad pet owners away!!!!

LOLOL

Classic deterent......I was going to recommend Ammonia along side the wall where she seems determine to walk near...pour it about 20 minutes before she arrives....her dog won't walk near that smell.....

Good advice, I like the sprinkler system, and the ammonia... but you would have to know when she will walk her dog each day. Other than that, keep a tight leash on your dogs, and you may have to resort to putting a muzzle on them when you walk them, just to keep them safe. I know it sucks, but it's better than having AC come get your dogs because some yippy dog ran up to it and lost the battle.

I would take photos as a precaution, for the future, just in case.

Don't ever open your gate with your dogs in the driveway, if they run outside your property, whatever happens outside will be your responsibility.

It's a good idea to keep your dogs from the main gate, as you know criminals poison dogs close to the gate to jump over and break into your car.
I do the same for my dog, I have a gate separating him from the main driveway gate.

If you take your dog for a walk, take a can of mace with you and a breakstick,
If you can't get a breakstick, get a small police baton/nightstick, both available at a fleamarket.

If a stray dog or someone's dog approaches you, spray the mace on their eyes.
You have your dog on a leash, so it's the other person's fault for not containing their dog.

Don't bother phoning the police, they are lazy and incompetent here in SA.

Rather phone the SPCA, to answer your questions concerning the laws, they are usually very helpful.

I just love how people can be creative when needed You might consider putting a sign saying something about Quarantine dogs - any scary disease

I would chicken-fence the inside of the palisade, it's cheap and efficient - I did it for my balcony.

And I would film or take a picture of her loose rat and send it to the city with her address and all.

That's the best idea I've heard so far, a bit of work and money, but worth it in the long run.

Not in SA, but you can make your own. Here is a thread with some link to pictures.

I don't know where one gets a breakstick in SA, but with the right instructions a carpenter should be able to help you out.

The harness that I use on my dog was bought at the vet.

If you don't like that type, maybe people at PBFSA will be able to help you out.
