Is it "Real Sports w/ Bryan Gumbel"? I saw that had a segment about dogfighting. If so, at least here in my neck of the woods (w. coast), it's coming on again Thursday morning at 6:30 or 9:30 on HBOHD. I DVR'd it for tomorrow.

Well I certainly don't fight my dog and I use a springpole all the time and I don't need some one that watched this show calling SPCA on me to try and "save" my dog. (Which we all know is bound to happen to someone)

From what I got from all this was its something that should be seen, if anything, just to know whats going on with how dog fighting is being portrayed to the public. It didn't seem to me that anyone was saying "yeah this rocks!", more of a "hmm, interesting."
Just my 2 cents.

Plus it helps to be able to debate with those who don't like the breed if we're familiar with all the press on them and can present more convincing arguments for our side.

IMO anybody that thinks this piece was good for our breed is not thinking clearly. it was the same old same old media hype designed to make people even more anit-pitbull. nothing positive said about our breed. it's as big of a black eye as the vick thing.

All these programs serve to do is act as an education guide for the street thugs and stree fighters who don't have a clue how to make their overweight mutt fight. So what better way than to watch these videos, read the made-up yet informative articles, and then go out and try the techniques on your dog as well as your friends' dogs.

IMO, the HSUS is single-handedly responsible for the "bait dog" theory, the gunpowder theory, the gasoline theory, the "brain gets too big for the skull" theory, the "locking jaw" theory, and numerous other bullshit theories that made them sound like they know what they were talking about in an effort to bring in financial contributions to "fight" these causes.

What she means by "made up" is that the media is responsible for the use of such actions. Before the media started coming up with ideas on how they think people would make their dogs fight, such things weren't popular at all. Once the media started reporting on how "these dogs are made to fight," all of the street thugs and degenerates started using those "guidelines" to go by for doing that exact thing. It was never a problem, although obviously thought of, before the media started "teaching" people how to fight their dogs.

First of all, I don't know of one dog that would willingly eat gunpowder, broken glass, or drink gasoline. Second of all, based on my medical knowledge and education, gunpowder will KILL a dog, not "make it mean" or "make it wanna fight" as the idiots proclaim. Giving gasoline to a dog will KILL a dog. Feeding a dog broken glass will KILL a dog.

As for the "bait dog" theory, I'm not saying that bait dogs don't exist. I'm saying they did NOT exist before the HSUS said they did. Historical dogmen that created this breed, did not throw puppies, kittens or other family pets to their dogs to make them "get a taste for blood" or "learn to like to kill" as the HSUS & PETA employees like to say. Think about it. First off, do you believe that feeding your dog raw gives it "the taste for blood?" No, so why would doing the above-mentioned do so. Secondly, using a sports analogy here, "you will only be as good as you practice" or "your team will only be as good as the teams you play against." Taking down the level of competition for humans or dogs only serves to make that competitor a weaker one. In order to have a top-notch competitor, one must provide competition equal to or greater than their own or their own dog's level. Do you see what I'm saying? So the whole "let this great fighting dog fight someone's overweight Golden Retreiver" doesn't make a bit of sense.

However, wanna-be street fighters and street thugs turned dog fighters took the HSUS at it's word that this is how the "dogmen" trained their dogs to fight thus they begin putting those practices into play. Now we are dealing with the consequences.

Yes, I had uncontrollable tears roll down my face.

However, Im glad due to Vicks crap that this brutal sport is getting the attention it deserves.

This southern white guy who did not want to be seen bragged and talked about dog fighting and how as usual the " I love my dogs". However during the end you find he quit doing it because the woman he loved told him "You have to make a choice its me or dog fighting" but the bastard still misses it.



They showed bait dogs.

One dog was stolen right out of her owners yard and the owner went looking for her and after a while found her bloody on the street trying to find her way home. Her hip was "smashed" or kicked in. The vet that operated on her said that he is all too familar with this and that it is common for bait dogs to have such injuries to make them helpless and the vet told the reporter that "these people, Im gonna be honest they are worthless pieces of shit".


They had a video that was confiscated it was made by dog fighters that showed another bait dog, a black pit bull with white on its chest.

The dog in the video was coming up to the assholes in it and they were kicking it away then it showed the fighting dog attacking this dog and that got me angry I wanted to kill these people by sticking my fingers in their eyes and not stop pressing .

This dog that looked like a teen pup if you will was laying on its side while the other dog was mauling it and this dog looked confused like what the hell is going on?

But the dog bit back but not bad enough.


The White trash piece of shit guy that loved dog fighting so much said that he has seen a dog win some one 60,000 for one fight.

They showed busted rings with starved dogs living in feces and all of that.


Im glad that people are now paying even more attention to this and if your against dog fighting it doesnt make you a "tree hugger" it says you have a soul.



If anyone ever did that shit to my dogs, Im half Cajun, I would be summoning up Voodoo shit and even use a Voodoo doll like in Serpent and the Rainbow to make their life a living hell.

But it was said that dog fighting is an under ground sub culture in the South and the reporter that covered it said it wont be going away

The show was called Real Sports and I watched the whole segment.


I did make a thread about this because I didnt see this thread and it was not posted up yet but that is okay sorry for the over look admins.


I disagree with some of the statements made and respectfully so, so I hope respectfully people can understand my pov on this segment.



I saw the spring pole and I knew some people would not like it first thing that popped into my head however, this is something that needs to be brought into light it has not been taken seriously for a long time and did any of you remember the Mr. Cowboy undercover man dog fighter saying how there is big money in all of this?

He recalled one dog won a man 60,000 dollars.

This is blood money.


This segment did not show a good side to our dogs but it did show a reality to our dogs and you cant deny that and it needs to be shown and showing this segment shows what this breed is going through. No, we dont always get what we want represented in any coverage either and I know it can be frustrating but any coverage like this right now is a start.


Once we can work on things like this, then lets get into the BYB issue here.


Yes, some people shoot up their dogs or mix in their food battery acid, gun powder, hot peppers... yes the use small animals too.

This segment showed two of the bait dogs one that was stolen from her back yard and one that was filmed by dog fighters remember that one?

Im pretty sure that was a pit bull it was black with the white spot on the chest. Remember that? The dog fighters filmed the dog coming up to them and they kicked it away and the dog was then laying on its side being attacked by the fighting dog and really was not fighting too much.this one got me crying...

Let me add here, my best friend in the world is married to a police detective who has been on the scene of dog fight busts he has seen it all and has testified at many a trial on evidence found and has removed dogs from the scene. He hates BSL and is some one who teaches other cops how to treat dogs in busts I have stories about that he is a good man.


What I would suggest is to take the time to write Bryant and thank him and perhaps let him know more and provide him links about this issue, it cant hurt and he didnt hurt by going into this issue. For example provide him with the pole issue and show him not all pit bull owners who have poles are fighters, go into BYBs educate him.

Its up to us isnt it?

Not everyone knows about this breed instead of getting mad at what has been done about segments like this and complain about it do something about it, email the man, thank him and educate him.

He-- Im sure did this out of concern for this breed not a hate piece on pit bulls..

I left the dog scene a long time ago because I got sick of the complaining everytime some one did not do a piece on something the way others wanted it to be, I got burnt out on this and frustrated.



I think a lot of peole are going to see this and see what some of these dogs go through and feel sorry for these creatures.

And again we have the beauty of the internet, help educate and thank people who do make an effort here that is where we are making a difference.


(Im not trying to be crass here I hope I am able to give some kind of food for thought on this as I firmly believe in what I just said however, I do understand some of you and your frustration, ...)
