Default Sad ending to a great day
My son and I had a great day with Blu today. We went to a lake that is just outside of the little city that we live in. We walked the banks throwing sticks and rocks into the water and sniffed everything in sight (well Blu did the sniffing) Then we came back into town and went to the river to see if anyone was catching any flats or if the alligator gars were just taking all the bait today. We live in a small college town and there are a lot of foreign students here. There was a group of Asian students fishing from the bridge and they were all speaking in their national language.
One of the young ladies started over to see Blu. Suddenly one of the men grabbed her by the back of the shirt and started letting her have it. He was talking faster than I have ever heard anyone talk and suddenly I understood three words that he said at the end of her bashing..."He kill you !!"
Now I know its not a good idea to go up to any dog but I had seen her coming and had already grabbed Blu by the collar because I knew he would try to jump on her. (we are working very hard on this bad habit). I would have let her extend her hand to Blu and I know he would have licked it like it was a Tootsie Pop. It just mad me very sad to realize that the rep our choice of companion has is obviously world wide. Really already knew it anyway but today just brought it out right in front of my face.

How sad. I have learn with owning this breed you need to have thick skin. My own sister will not come over to my house because of my dogs.

I really hate people sometimes. I don't own this wonderful breed but I will in the future. People say that about our shelter APBT's and it makes me mad they are the sweetest dogs ever! I would gladly go to anyone's house that has an APBT. Some people are so prejudice.

They are wonderful but yes you do have to have a thick skin and brush those kinda jerky people off. They are missing out on a wonderful canine companion!! We love them and that's all that matters.

Unfortunately the world always tends to see the bad in our wonderful breed. Odie loves everyone, Thankfully here in my area only in the snooty neighborhoods do they have issues. I love people who come up to Odie. Most of the time, his butt just starts wiggling, especially when women come up to him. Men it's more aloof, and some women, depends on the person ok just waking up here.

youre gonna get that response, imo its mostly the medias fault. they use anything to sell papers, and make you tune in. mostly a combination of bad info and prejiduced reporting. when a lab bites it may make one local paper, but when some half pit bites, everyone is running the story.

It's really sad when someone is loving on your dog, and saying how nice and friendly they are, and then they ask, what breed, and you say APBT, and they run away with a horrified look on their face..like how dare you let me pet one of those.......

I was talking to an art teacher who I admire and saying how my dog likes to lick faces, I told her he was an APBT and she totally freaked on me and said she didn't want me or my dog around her ever....it was sad, but you get used to it.

I've only had my pup Lou, for a month now, and have had this happen already. The more I am on this site the more I realize that its really going to be a part of having him. Makes me kinda mad, but mostly sad, that so many people will miss out on know how great he is going to be. To bad for them.
