GRASS VALLEY, Calif. -- Gibson -- the world's tallest dog and one of Grass Valley's most famous residents -- is suffering from bone cancer.

2007 File Video: Meet World's Tallest Dog

The harlequin Great Dane, who stands more than 7 feet tall, has appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Earlier this week, veterinarians had to amputate Gibson's right front leg.

The dog's owner said he's coming home later this week and she expects him to be in the limelight in just a couple of months.

Gibson is listed as the tallest living dog by the Guinness World Records.

According to the site K9Grass, Gibson is a certified therapy dog.~

I remember that big beauty on "O". Poor guy.
When I was at the U of Minn vet hospital when Lefty had cancer, there was this St Bernard/Grate Dane mix (HUGE!) He had his leg amputated about three months prior, He could never sneak up on anyone but he seemed like he was happy enough. They said it took forever for him to get to that point. I wish Gibson well.
