Default What are they good for?
This is gong to be both an interesting and educational thread created for and by the members of this site so I expect max participation...!

Consider the following situation which to some is purely hypothetical, but to most is a daily occorance. Someone poses the following question as you are enjoying time with your dog. In reference to "pitbulls" misconceptions and negativity aound. Be it a naysayer, ignorant trouble maker, curious kids, city councilman, etc. In response to preconcieved rage and destruction please respond in this thread (even with pictures for emphasis)

Please take this opportunity to persuade the masses of your sentiments for your chosen breed...

I think I am lucky in that I live in an area that seems to have a lot of bully breed dogs, so mostly everyone is pretty tolerant and mostly friendly to them. If I was asked that question I would respond with the same question, if they were dog owners. I would then tell them that they are good for kisses, and snuggles. Sitting by me when I am sad, and comforting me when I am grieving. They are always there with a smile even when I have had a bad day at work, and no matter how long I have been gone, they don't hold it against me. That is what I would say.

They're good for anything! They'll be whatever you want them to be; you just have to put the time and effort into making it happen.

I have NEVER owned a dog that was SOOOOOOO tolerant of anything a human could dish out and give kisses in the process. I have never owned a dog that would have allowed me to wrap her in a vet wrap contraption like this because she had a sore on her elbow and I couldn't get the vet wrap to stay up on her elbow, so I had to wrap her like this (yes, my poor dog):

Nor have I ever owned a dog that would have allowed me to do this, without rubbing it off immediately:

I've NEVER owned a breed of dog that would have napped with my son so lovingly like this:

I have never owned a dog, before Ella, that would have been up and bouncing the next day after a surgery that left a mark like this:

No other dog would have helped me study for my abnormal psych midterm like Ella did...

NO OTHER BREED can give THESE kinds of smiles after a long day of play:

And, one more thing, I have never owned a dog breed that would tolerate a vet poking and prodding her and it never phased her. In fact, she gives the vet kisses, and my vet makes the comment, "MAN! I wish my dog had this dog's disposition, she's a GREAT dog."

I have NEVER owned a dog that loved humans as much as the American Pit Bull Terrier.
I just wish non-APBT owners would realize this.

They are good for whatever you want them to do. They are loyal, and one of the most athetic breeds there is out there today. They are your companion (as is the case with other breeds too) and loyal friend. No other living being will be as loyal or give unconditional love, never asking for something in return.

Everything!

They are wonderful jogging buddies.

They are wonderful snuggling buddies.

They are friends to my children.

They are friends to the neighbors' children.

They make you smile when you've had a bad day.

They make you smile when you've had a good day.

They keep you warm on a cold winter's night.

They keep you sweltering hot on a warm summer night.

They help you clean the dishes in the dishwasher.....even if they just came out clean.

They help you sort through the trash for any leftovers that shouldn't have been thrown out.

They help you sort through the trash for any recycleables that shouldn't have been thrown out, but rather torn up and dispersed throughout the living room.

I could go on, but most of all:

They are good for loving us at our most undeserving times. They never question it, they just do it.

What are they good for???

Getting you through the death of a sibling, even when you don't want to go on for yourself, you want to go on for them.

They are good for checking out what's in the fridge that might be good for dinner.

They are good for inspecting the bags you just brought home from the grocery to see if there is anything interesting in there.

They are good for cheering you up by acting goofy just for your entertainment.

They are good for a great case of the zoomies.

They are good for sharing your bed, keeping you warm in the winter, and keeping you hotter in the summer!

They are good for protecting you from a bird attack...just in case... in the back yard.

They are good for hogging the pool...

They are good for saying "please" for that 9th treat of the day...

They are good for saying, "enough pictures already!!"

They are good for telling you how to drive and being a back..er..front seat driver...

They are great at guarding... the couch, the pillow, the blankie..., from the cat....

basically, they are just "good for..... everything!!!" I can't imagine my life without my bully. She may not guard the house, but she guards my heart everyday!!

snuggling, kisses, doing tricks, kicking me off of the bed, eating my valentines chocolates when I am not looking, keeping the floor free of food particles, doing stupid things that make me laugh, attempting to knock me out with an incidental head butt, attemting to knock himself out by hitting his head on various pieces of furnature, and a WHOLE LOT OF BULLY LOVE.

and bully smiles.

I was thinking the same thing. She does look remarkably like Miakoda (RIP). Especially in the face.

Mine are great nanies ...garbage disposals....methane creators...and stress relief therapy dogs....and pot licking love bugs. Plus on top of all that they can catch nasty ferral hogs or any number of pests. But mostly love bugs.

I actually posted this in another thread, but if fits here as well......

The true ones, never let you down. They show humans, how life is supposed to be and be treated. They are the voice of humankind.

They are what humans lack......everyday.

What are they good for?

They are silly and goofy dogs that bring a smile to my face.

They are intelligent.

They are athletic and full of energy.

Not only do they stand in the show ring and look pretty, but they can compete in working events as well.

They are happy dogs with great temperaments.

They love humans, especially the smaller ones.

They even keep the bed warm.

They are loving and loyal dogs. Most of all, they provide me with companionship.
