So while talking to my new landlord I learned that there is a man who has poisoned and shot several dogs and cats in the neighborhood, I do not know if this guy is prejudiced toward pits or if he is just a mean spirited S.O.B. Anywho do you guys think I should say my girl is a different type of dog or a mix for her sake?I do not want to lie and am very proud to have an APBT but I do not want to jeopardize her safety. No matter what she will always be supervised when she is outside and never allowed off leash. Still you never know what could happen... what do you guys think we should do?

I think lying or not lying is something that one has to decide for themselves. With that being said, apparently this person has poisoned not only dogs but cats also; therefore he is probably not prejudice toward any one type of animal let alone one type of dog. Since breed/species doesn't seem to matter to this person, I don't really see a point in lying.

You have stated that your dog will always be supervised and on leash and I think those are the best safety precautions that you can take.

I am not one for lying but it ultimatly comes down to saving my dog. If you register a dog as any type of pitbull in this state your homeowners insurance will drop you. (I was told prudential may insure a home with a pitbull type dog but not sure) I don't know what to tell you to do but if I thought that this guy was going to harm my dog because it was a pitbull I would call it a lab/mix.

Were the dogs he killed Apbts? If not, I'd say he is just a mean SOB, seeing as he has also killed cats..which aren't Apbts.
Regardless of what he killed, the mere fact that he killed them means he is a mean SOB, pitbull or not.

To me, it seems like you need to just be deligent in keeping your dog safe PERIOD. Whether you lie or not might not even matter to this guy. It seems like this guy is a mean a--hole.

Also, be aware that people who harm animals sometimes find it easier to make that stretch over to hurting people. Keep an eye on that freak, not just for your dog's safety, but for YOURS too.

If you think this guy is a pit hater, lie if you think it might help. BUT..I dont know what your dog looks like. Some apbts clearly look like APBTS. Some you could pass as mixed. Like i said, you need to be very deligent period.

Do you know the circumstances of when this guy kills cats and dogs??? b/c to me it seems like he is killing dogs and cats that come on to his property. If I were you....I would worry no matter what kinda dog you have...I don't think lying about what breed you have is going to stop the guy from killing your dog...with that being said since to me it seems like he is only killing dogs on his property, make sure your dog stays in the yard...watch her outside and don't let her get lose. That is the best advise I can give you.

Are you living in this house now???? Do you have to move there? I not I would try and avoid it if I was you so that you don't have to worry about that guy but if you do have to move in then do so and make sure your doors are always locked and watch your back.

he shot a neighbors dogs at her request ( shes nuts too) and he killed my landlords cat when he accidentally got out and got on the guys property. i suppose the reason he hasnt been prosecuted is because animal control doesnt give a rats ass about people out in the stix... still I will keep an eye on him and keep my girl close to me regardless...

Make sure you ALWAYS supervise your dog outside... My question is, if this person has shot many dogs and cats in the neighborhood.... why hasn't he been charged with cruelty or animal abuse or something like that, especially if these animals were someone's pets??? I guess I can understand if the animals get on his property and are running wild.. I have a neighbor that will shoot any dog that comes on his land and chases his chickens, and he shot and killed the girl across from me's 2 pits when they left for the day and didn't chain them back up (). The dogs got after and killed 5 of his goats, so he had every right to shoot the dogs, and I fault the girl with not tying her dogs up before she left for the day, she knew they weren't tied up, and just left them loose. These dogs have high prey drive, and I know any of my dogs would have done the exact same thing, if they got loose. So even though I don't like this guy, I can't fault him for killing her dogs... she let her dogs down. Just another reason for me to make sure mine NEVER get loose.

Miss Lexi, you have only listed 2 incidents of him killing; one at the request of the pet's owner (do you know why the neighbor ask him to do this?) and the other when a cat was on his property. So, I would say if you keep you dog on your property and off of his property then you should be okay.

If it was the neighbor that killed the animals there is no need to lieto your landlord! just keep your dog of that guys property and if he comes to your property to harm your dog call the cops or animal control, and put his A** in jail for animal cruelty!

no i dont mean to lie to my landlord, my landlord knows and loves my dog ( her dog is my dogs playmate) .. what i meant by lying about lexi is if I am walking her in the neighborhood and someone asks what type of dog she is. since I dont really know any of the neighbors around there and have no clue of who would be in contact with who i would hate to have some nutcase comment on my dog find out what type she is and then spread the word to someone who could potentially shoot my dog.

also yes i only stated two incidents but there are a lot more... just a few months ago he poisoned someone's puppy and has shot as several dogs in the area.. he has no pets no livestock and no kids so nothing that would need to be defended from an animal.. from what I have been told I am guessing this is just a mean and bitter S.O.B.


also why has he not been called out on animal cruelty charges? because the animal control people do not care. for them it is a huge hassle to drive way out to the sticks to check up on an alleged animal cruelty case.. lets put it this way.. about 3 years ago I called AC because my neighbors had a cow who was VERY VERY emaciated and was getting skinnier by the day. and no matter what i did the animal control people would NOT come out.. it is the same way out where we are moving..my landlord has called Ac and the police and nothing has been done. but anyways I am not debating about this guy being lower than scum .. ...(anyone who would hurt an animal is very low in my book)

First off, let me give you a (hug). I know how heart wrenching it can be when it comes 2 the saftey of our dogs and them being a target for some freaks out there.

Are you planning 2 talk with this guy? if not, then why even worry about saying what kind of dog she is. If anyone asks and u don't feel comfy, just say she is a Terrier, smile and walk away.

Now if this were me......I would first go down 2 the police station and speak with someone there. Just 2 give them heads up as 2 what is going on. That way IF anything were 2 happen, they are already aware of the situation and have it on file. AC, well I would not go 2 them, they can't do much. I would just go 2 the police, just 2 have it written in some file that you had heard some things about a neighbor and just wanted 2 cover your bases if (G-d forbid) something were 2 happen. Now i'm not sure about doing this but, even ask the cop 2 nicley stop by his house and just let him know a few neighbors were concerned for their pets health and welfare. That they did not want any problems. This guy may explain that the only reason he hurt the other animals was b/c they were on his property. Other than that he has no beef w/ other animals (Just a guess). Or he could get more mad.....that is a 50/50 chance though. But I would still go 2 your local police just 2 have it on file.

Or maybe go over 2 his house (w/out dog) and introduce yourself 2 him. Kill him w/ kindness. Take it from there (even though I would be biting my tounge the whole time).

Either or, he sounds like a dirt ball. If I took a gun and shot a cat that was on MY lawn, I would be in some deep sh1t where I live (even if it was on my property).I would never ever do anything like that though. Be careful. Always keep a eye on your baby, keep her in a good and solid collar/harness that way she has zero chance of getting loose when you both are out for a walk/run. Make sure she is not eating anything off the ground (in case this "man" uses poison). Good luck with eveything!

Make them care. YOU pay taxes, you help pay their paycheck. Make them care, you go 2 them. That's why I would first get my butt in my car and drive 2 the police station and not leave until I spoke with the right person and had some kind of solution. This would NOT be ok with me. If I had a neighbor doing these kinds of things who's 2 say a kid doesn't pick up some food or something on the ground that he had put out for a animal 2 eat and it has poision on it? it makes me upset even hearing all this. Some people *shakes head*, what is wrong with them.
