Default I can not believe how cruel people can be
This happened here in ATL this week. Hunthing knife lodged in 1yr old Pit Bull's head. If I am out of line please delete. But they are offereing a reward. I usually do not agree with the HSUS. But in this case I will say that I do.

Hunting Knife Lodged In Pit Bull's Head

POSTED: 2:18 pm EDT August 15, 2007
UPDATED: 6:48 pm EDT August 15, 2007

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Humane Society said a 1-year-old female pit bull was brought to them this morning with a hunting knife sticking out of her head.

AHS said it had very limited information on the animal -- only that it was brought from a local veterinarian’s office. The owner of the pit bull said they woke up Wednesday morning and discovered the knife was lodged in the pit bull’s head.

The dog was alert as it was prepped for surgery. Officials with the Atlanta Humane Society said the dog is out of surgery this afternoon and is listed in stable condition.

The knife was about 3 ½ inches into her skull.

"I've never seen any type of animal cruelty like this," said P.J. Smith with the Atlanta Humane Society.

Officials with AHS said the dog was giving them wet kisses late Wednesday afternoon after surgery and they believe she will make a full recovery.

AHS is offering a $1000 reward for any information.

This is horrible

An aside: Shelters that call themselves a "Humane Society" are not usually (if ever) affiliated with HSUS. They may apply for grants from them but are not connected organizations.

Considering I am in Vet Med I do understand that. I meant to edit that and say I am not usually a fan of the HSUS. And that applies to most shelters. Alot (not all) have the same mentality of the HSUS. I deal with most in the ATL area because of my job.

I used to work for the Colorado Springs Humane Society. ANd they claimed to be a no kill shelter. Welll they were except for "Pit Bulls". Every dog got vaccines when they came to the Shelter except "Pit Bulls"

I saw her on the news last night at work... So sad... I want to go see her but I doubt they will allow visitors... I wonder if a rescue is trying to bring her in to their program...

I was wondering that as well. I hope she finds the home she deserves.

And they had her on the news today. And by the way she was bouncing around and wagging her tail you would never know what she went through.

I was talking to a friend today about it. And she brought up something that is so true. That the media plays a HUGE part in the violence towards this breed. They play up the vicious "Pit Bull". And they create the mass hysteria. Irresponsible owners play a part as well.

However, then there are shelters like ours that works very hard on being breed blind...every dog gets vaccinated and every dog is evaluated on the exact same scale for adoptability.

** owners don't like it when ppl generalize based on breeds of dogs...shelters don't care for generalizations either

Well I am glad yours is.

But the majority do not. And that is really sad. And of the ones that I deal with in Metro ATL only 2 adopt out Pit Bull Type.

So generalizing no I am not. It is reality.

I'm lucky that here in CT most shelters not only adopt out pits but go out of their way to try to find them good homes.

That said, I do cross posting for rescue and pits are the MOST abused breed of all. If I read a horror story I don't even have to look at the breed...I know it will be a pit. I don't know what there is about them that makes people have a need to hurt them and in the most horrible ways.

I'm hoping the Vick case will help people learn of the horrors perpetrated on this wonderful breed.

Peace,
Jane and the Hole in the Wall Gang

What a couple weird coincidences. I also worked at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region MANY years ago, and now live in ATL...and I'm a pit bull mom...and worked as a vet tech for several years. Are you stalking me???
My husband and I were shocked, saddened, and angry when we heard about the attack on the baby bull the other day. I hope they catch the heartless bastard and throw the bookcase at him.

LOL I actually worked for Colorado Humane Society. They split the building in two. And Pike Peak was for the county and Colorado HS was for the city limits. But Colorado Humane is not longer there from what I know. They were a bunch of B.S.

Yeah, but yall gotta be proud of alabama with that jackass that hurt Louis Vuitton got the 9 years and 6 months prison time. I heard it while I was at work. We were all estatic! Everyone who hurts a dog should get that.
I agree also, maybe one day they'll ban the right end of the leash!!! People just plain out suck! How could anyone hurt an animal or human. They say PITBULLS are DANGEROUS--HUMANS ARE THE DANGEROUS ONES--.

My shelter is all about the PITBULLS(faithfulfriends in delaware). We are a NO KILL SHELTER and non-profit. Your right most places will kill pits in a heart beat! We totally support the breed 110%. Horrible people, keep your dogs in where it's safe.

If you can do that cruel act to an animal, what would they do to a person? People have some serious issues out there and it's really scarey to think that their just out walking the streets. Hope they catch the ASSHOLE and stab him in the head and throw his ass in jail!!!! But animal cruelty laws suck ass. One can only pray one day animals get some sort of justice and people to stand behind them!!!

I agree people suck... This is why I don't like alot of people and revere animals. They will love unconditionally. I wish people could do the same.
