Hi,
I think I am giving the breed pitbull a bad name. People who know me and our dog often go into hysterics when we are out walking together or they see her being silly. Being as sick as she was as a pup she was kept inside all the time. So now she has no idea what it is like to be outside at night,,and will NOT go out after dark unless someone goes outside with her. She will NOT go out in the rain or when it is cold, unless you drag her out. She WILL chase rabbits or cats, but once they stop running, she sits and pushes them around and waits for them to start running again,,,,then she's off chasing them. She has brought home baby rabbits and was quite upset when we wouldn't let her keep them on the bed. When walking her she is embarrassing. Her paw pads are so soft she will NOT walk across stiff grass. She will stop and stand without budging. I once forced her and she got a burr and we had to pick her up and carry her to the footpath. She also hates rocky ground and hot roads. When everyone stops for a rest all the dogs plonk down panting,,,but if it is a rough ground I have to put down a shirt or jacket for her to sit/lay on. I take her to Hungry Jacks and she sits at the table and has a Happy Meal. She loves it. I have had policemen stand there shaking their heads and laughing saying they couldn't believe it. All the kids on the play equipment stand with their faces squished up to the fence squealing and laughing. (she prefers the nuggets to the burger cause she hates the gherkins) Even the Ranger here said "if she ever turned (like they talk about on the news etc) all you would have to do was run to the otherside of the grass and there would be no way she would get you" She is spoilt to the point of being soft. We never meant for that to happen but she was so sick and was just over 1yo before the vet said she was in the clear,,,but would still die young due to the heart damage. He is amazed she made it this far... When people see her being so 'soft' while she has a muzzle on they ask what is wrong with her. They seem to think the muzzle is for 'medical' purposes. When we explain the muzzle is by law as she is a pitbull,,they cannot understand how this big soft dog is connected with the dogs they hear about on the news. Has anyone else spoilt thier pit to the point of no return??? Kellie |

I've had a few dogs here that were geeked out beyond belief and with patience and training they blossomed. Just stop babying her! lol If she has high prey/chase drive, you can use that to your advantage in training. Get her focused on a flirt pole or something and then lure her on to the grass. Or maybe a burger would work! lol

Great story! Tank is pretty spoiled and soft, although very strong. Most of your story sounds like you're talking about him. I had no idea that you legally had to muzzle a PB in any state. I'll admit that before we got Tank I had the same stigma as most people about PB's but after having him I can't really understand how they got that reputation. He just doesn't have a mean bone in his body.
