Hey everyone I need some advice. I believe the young pitbull that I have has been abused in the past, I found him starving, and others told me they had seen him be shot at. Anyway, he is the SWEETEST, most gentle dog ever. He comes up to me holding a sock and other things in his mouth, but when i got to try and play with him he just tucks his tail and lays down. I feel so bad for him. What should I do to make him know that he will never be hurt again. And will he ever play?

It takes time for dogs/pups to adjust to a new lifestyle and home and all...especially people. The older the pup is, it usually it hits them harder and take them longer. |

Agreed - you need to take this little doggy soul to a vet, to rule out any physical issues (vision being one of them, but not limited to).
Once cleared, time and patience will be your partners. When we took in Espe (our mostly Rottn dog) in 2002, she had NO clue how to play and showed physical and emotional signs of abuse. She learned how to play, but it took some time and learning how to trust again. |
