I hope I explain this correctly.

There are lines that a dog must cross, by crossing the line, the dog is "saying" he/she is willing to fight. When the dog crosses that line it is referred to as scratching.

is the dog trained to cross that line in fights. or is it up to the dog at that time. i read the rules of the pit posted by Se. so i am assuming thats why a second is not allowed to pick up a dog?

So i am assuming the dog at that time makes the choice to scratch not the owners. Thats why your dog can be messed up and win a match over another dog that is not half as bad. Because the other did not scratch

Am i assuming all this correctly.

The dog isn't trained to do it. That is where the courage comes in. If the dog doesn't scratch (from my understanding), there is no match.

yes...this a proper assumption. Scratching started (under cajun rules) after one of the dogs was called for a turn (literally turning away from the other dog as opposed to taking a hold with his mouth) The dog that was called for a turn then had to scratch to continue the match. He had a time limit in which he had to move to the other side and take hold of the other dog...if he didn't wish to continue the match was over. If the owner was to touch, push, etc. the dog would then be disqualified and lose either way.

A courtesy scratch was used to test gameness after a match was decided. After the match was decided a handler would ask for a courtesty screatch (as described above) just to see if his dog still had the will to continue...that's what happened in the situation that I posted in the other thread with Wallace's Toney. He was picked up from the fight by his owner, but made the courtesy scratch....

I can read that over and over again. Probably my favorite thing in the history section.

With regard to the owners not being allowed to push the dog into the scratch, the rules I've read say that the handler must hold the dog in front of the chest rather than by the hips, scruff, etc. That way, they're unable to give the dog a shove as they're letting it go.

in what context?

My initial reaction is that fed means that I just gave food to my dog...

He was hungry, but now he's fed.

wow buddy. Giving the definition of a word does not make anyone a law breaker. How many dictionary publishers have gone to jail for publishing the definition of "murder"?

No one said a single thing about modern day anything. Everything has been said in a historical context.

ETA: and why do you think people here want to educate others about the history of the breed? It's not so we can all be soccer mom's w/ our "pitties", not knowing about their history. You're at the same time bashing what you're claiming we don't know about.

who claimed to be a dogman? I certainly am not. If you're curious there is a thread on this board about what makes a dogman, or earns an individual the title. You can use the search feature to read and comment in that thrad as well.

I wouldn't ask what a cut dog is because...that would cause me to somehow bait you into answering. If that was some "knowledge" that you're pretending to have by your status as a dogman I'd suggest you keep it to yourself. Afterall...the feds are watching.

Yeah, I gave a definition of what it meant. Also, SE gave an account from when it was legal.

No one said "well, when my dogs in the pit..."

We gave a definition of a word. Nothing illegal or revealing about that.

I am definitely NOT a Dogwoman, and I consider myself a student of the breed. I am what you would call a "Pet Bull" owner.

oh, what the heck...I'll save you the effort of searching. Here's a link to the discussion on what makes a good dogman...feel free to add something.

Blowhard 1980... dude if you think the feds haven't moved beyond searching internet forums for "red flags" like scratch, roll, 1xw, otc, etc etc.... you've got some learning of your own to do...

Damn i didnt know me asking this would spark such a reaction. i was reading up and i couldnt understand what scratching meant. I am not a 'FED' as i live in South Africa.LOL.

It would have been pointless not for me to ask something i dont know. I am here to learn and be educated.
