I have a 7 mos. old male APBT he weights 56.5 lbs. is this about average or big for his age??? I think he's perfect but just trying to figure out about how much he will weigh full grown?? Genetics will play the bigger role here....what kind of "pit bull" is it? depending on the mix, it mayjust be opverweight! Ours are full grown and they are both less than 40! |

To more accurately estimate his future weight...what do you know about the last 4 generations on his pedigree? How large were those dogs? |

I have attached some pics of him...I dont think he is over weight at least he doesnt look to me like he is.

My Pit is about 70 lbs, , he is at a healthy weight, you can easily feel his ribs with slight fat cover, and he has very well defined muscles. I don't know why he is so large, as for the standard, 30-60, oops! I can't make my baby any smaller, and at sixty pounds he would look severly underweight. Genetics does play a big role, Apollo's dad, and grandpa were both huge.

30-60 is the standard but it also says that heavier weights are acceptable if they are in porportion (did I spell that right?) to height. The excerpt from the UKC standard... Height and Weight
Above all, the American Pit Bull Terrier should appear to be an all around athlete. His body is called upon for speed, power, agility and stamina. He must be balanced in all directions. Too much of one thing, robs him of another. In his ideal form, he is a thing of beauty. and from the AADR's standard... SIZE The breed has Historically been of great size variation, however, Males are perferred not over 70 pounds and Females are perferred not over 60 pounds, as extremely large dogs seldom show fluid and agile movement. |
